    3. I've looked through the materials (books) I have and have found no mentions of the surnames: BARBARICK, SPURLING, STERLING or SPERLING in the 1890 Guthrie city directory or in the Oklahoma City 1890 city directory. In the book, "The First Eight Months of Oklahoma City" 1890 by Bunky it states that 52 days after the opening, April 22 1889 there were 11 laundries in OKC. Go to the following for information on the Oklahoma Land Runs: http://okgenweb.org/~land/ You might check with the Logan County Genealogical Society for cemetery information on Louis BARBARICK or the family being in Guthrie/ http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~oklcgs/ Also the Oklahoma Genealogical Society at http://www.okgensoc.org<http://www.okgensoc.org/> to have them do a newspaper search for you. 1. [OK-LANDRUNS] Rachael Melissa Barbarick Spurling
    2. My grandmother, Rachael Melissa (Barbarick) Spurling Krum was born August 16 1866 in Michigan, moved with her parents to Wisconsin where they homesteaded land and then moved south to Sherman, Texas about 1877 (according to his obituary). However, he had family in Oklahoma and moved back and forth across the state lines. Melissa married James Spurling (Sterling, Sperling) in Oklahoma. She always said that during the landrun - probably 1892 - she rode a horse and claimed land in what is now Oklahoma City where she planned to start a laundry. However the 'city fathers' wanted that particular location for a post office - or some other government building so they gave her another piece of land. Her father, William W. Barbarick is in the 1890 Oklahoma territorial census but I have not been able to find Rachael Melissa or her husband James Spurling. Also, William W. Barbarick had a son, Louis (Lewis) born 1874 in Wisconsin, died 7 May 1894 in Guthrie, Oklahoma (according to the family Bible). The family story is that he and another teenager were murdered over an argument about tobacco. Are there old newspapers or death records that could verify or disprove this story?

    3. There are actually 3 cemeteries at Sacred Heart near Shawnee. There are separate cemeteries for the nuns & priests who were at the school when it was a boarding school. Then there is the active cemetery in front of the church. There are also several other small rural cemeteries in the area. The Pottowatomie County Genealogical Society in Shawnee has surveys of most of those cemeteries. ----- Original Message ----- From: Becky<mailto:americafaye@sbcglobal.net> To: ok-landruns@rootsweb.com<mailto:ok-landruns@rootsweb.com> ; OK-CHURCHES-L@rootsweb.com<mailto:OK-CHURCHES-L@rootsweb.com> ; OKBECKHA@rootsweb.com<mailto:OKBECKHA@rootsweb.com> ; OK-IT@ROOTSWEB.COM<mailto:OK-IT@ROOTSWEB.COM> Sent: Friday, March 19, 2010 8:01 PM Subject: Re: [OK-LANDRUNS] Oklahoma Genealogy Chat Room I have a question. I have tried for over 10 years to locate something else about his death to no avail. No burial record or death record that I can find. HELP !! Please.... Is there a cemetery called Sacred Heart somewhere in OK ? Was there a town named Sacred Heart ? I know there was Sacred Heart Mission near Shawnee, but I reached a dead end there. I was given some information of a Sacred Heart cemetery in NE OK, but was unable to find anything there either. No one to contact there that I could find. Any suggestions is greatly appreciated. 3. My grandfather, John Lynch was in the 1890 Cleveland co. census, living in Noble. I believe that was in box 13 part 2 of the territory map. I would like to know if his name appeared as purchasing land during the land run. Robert Lynch
