It is all there in the archives, except for the archived queries that some jerk deleted as soon as I left. Linda said we could archive queries on the html side of the archives and so I did. My heart and soul is in the Beckham county archives. My book that I spent a few years working on, traveling across the south, and published in 1975, is there, along with my uncle's diary that he was keeping until he was killed in action in World War II, along with several articles about him, including the Captain's log of the flight he was killed on. And my grandmother's autobiography that she finished while still living in Erick, before moving to the nursing home in Hobart, where she died in 1989. Everything that was sent to me for Beckham county, I put in the archives. It is all there. > I think the archives is a great thing but no more important than the > usgenweb county pages and deserves the same respect Then don't make "busy work" rules for the county web sites. Some of us keep pretty busy as it is. I just asked for and received permission to upload six years worth of death notices and obits from the San Angelo Texas newspaper. I keep busy without having to put put my name, e-mail address and last updated thing at the bottom of every page. That is why almost every thing on the county site is now plain text and in the search engine. And not in plain site. > It's hard for me to understand how, when we ask for volunteers to HOST a > county site they claim ownership of the site and own all information Rootsweb says we own the sites. Individuals own the county web sites, not the state project. Those are the Rootsweb rules. As long as we keep it to genealogy, we can keep it. > submitted to the site. It is all in the archives. I did not make a difference between the county site and the archives. I thought it was all the same project. That is what I get for thinking. > When I see counties stripped of all info submitted after a CC resigns makes > me wish we could protect the county pages the same way Linda protects the > archives. > Sharon C She is very good at it. LOL The rules were that way from the very start. The archives has always been a top-down organization, and is run very well. The USGenWeb Project started with the emphasis on the county web site, with the CC as the most important person. (I think. Before my time) Maybe that is the reason you get so much resistance when you come up with new things. David > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "David W.
