Bill, I am not at all sure what Dennis is talking about when he is talking about archive, but the USGenWeb Archives has been run the same way since 1996, and it will continue to be run the same way, no matter what the advisory board or some committee does. I don't see the advisory board trying to interfere in the inner workings of OKGenWeb, so why do they try to interfere with the way the archives does business? I don't see them trying to tell Pam how to run the Tombstone Project. It is always the USGenWeb Archives that seems to be the target. Nobody wants people to get mad and delete everything when they leave. That happened in OKGenWeb in Nov or Dec 1998, when the CC AND the archivist for Pittsburg? county deleted all the cemeteries on both the county web site and in the archives for that county. You think a rule change is going to prevent that? The files donated to the USGenWeb Archives are there for permanent storage. That is the way it was set up in 1996, that is the way it still operates, and the way it will continue to operate. You don't donate books to a library, and then turn around and ask for the books back. If you are talking about a county web site, those are different rules. Like I said, I am sure sure exactly what Dennie is talking about. As I told the newest chair of the of the Bylaws committee, I will vote NO on anything that changes the status of the archives with the USGenWeb Project.
