Fellow CC's might find the following stats interesting: Out of the last 1000 visitors to the okchocta site; 93% were running IE 47% are running 1024x768 and another 39% are running 800x600 resolution 69% have 32 bit color 77% are using Windows XP Only 1% are Apple OS based 99.8% support DHTML 98.6% support PNG images 99.8% support Style Sheets 99.8% supports Java 99.2% of the visitors are from North American And 74% of those are in the Central Time zone The top 3 search engines used in finding okchocta were: MSN Google Yahoo What does all that mean? Well, in developing a website looks like designing for IE is the way to go. I try to check the site with Netscape, Mozilla, Opra and Firefox but after seeing 93% were using IE, I wonder "why bother?" I've always designed for 800x600 resolution but nearly 50% of the visitors to my site are now running 1024x768. I'll probably stop limiting images to 750 pixels in order to fit into an 800 pixel window. At only 1% Apple doesn't seem to be anything to design for. Don't worry about using DHTML, Scripts, PNG images, Style Sheets or Java - the vast majority supports them. Concentrate your search engine placement to MSN, Google and Yahoo. Now I'm really curious as to what percentage are dial-up vs. broadband. ----------------------------------------------------- Ron Henson Choctaw County Oklahoma GenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~okchocta
