From: Nancy Trice <trice@vci.net> 3:34 Subject: [STATE-COORD-L] A message from your new NC Please forward to your state and project mail lists. Thanks, nt ================================================================= Greetings USGenWeb members! As we all know, the month of July was a rocky one with the very first elections held for USGenWeb and the discussions about the bylaws. Today the elections are history, the bylaws are now in force, and the new board takes the reigns for the next year. The coming year will be an exciting one, and I'm sure a challenge, as we all try to figure out exactly where we are and where we are going as a project. I don't expect the next year to be any easier than the last year has been. We are still in our infancy and will undoubtedly continue to have growing pains for several years to come, but with everyones help and cooperation, we'll make it. I know there are some administrative things that we will be working on during the next couple of weeks and some new ideas and suggestions that will be presented to the board shortly. I am listing below the names and email addresses of your board representatives. If you have a question, a problem, or a suggestion for us, please contact your county coordinator rep, state coordinator rep or special project rep. I'll do my best to not disappoint you. To those who also ran in the election but not elected, I thank you for running. You are all winners in my book. I would like to take this opportunity to also say 'Thank You!' to Megan and the members of the out-going board. I know that the past year has not been easy for you, but you stuck it out for the benefit of USGW. I might not have agreed with everything you did, but I'm also smart enough to know that not everyone will agree with me and the new board all the time either. I truly hope that we don't have any problems of the magnitude you tackled. I wish all of you nothing but the best and thank you for your service. To the new board members, I look forward to working with you. Onward and upward! Respectfully, Nancy Trice National Coordinator <trice@vci.net>
Great job on the new logo, Sharon...it looks terrific on the OK page! ...and thanks, Terasa, for holding the ballot box! LaRae The Unassigned Lands of OK Territory http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Park/9448
Is there someone willing to take the Comanche County page? I hate to give it up since I started it way back when, but with the new baby I barely have a second to myself and there is rarely any time at all for computing. I want it to go to a good home, so I decided to ask here first. I also have the OKCOMANC mailing list that goes along with the page. Thanks! Becky Becky Smith Gallops bgallops@ionet.net

http://www.hpl.lib.tx.us/hpl/index.html In case you may be interested, here is the web address for the Houston Public Library. At this site, you can search their entire collection. Of course, I don't expect the OK people will pick up and drive down here just to get a book! But, Houston has the 3rd largest genealogy collection in the nation. Searching their site may let you know if a certain publication exists, and what the call letters are. They do have Joyce A. Rex's volumns on the 1890 Chickasas Census. Location = CLA, stands for Clayton Genealogy Library. It is near the downtown area, which unfortunately is about a 1 hour drive (if your lucky) from my house through the most God-awful traffic in the world (I live 30 miles away). ps - they have about 100 film readers there. Sometimes, you have to get a number and wait for a reader! Since only a few readers have printers, I take my 35mm camera and wide angle lens and snap away! Sure beats waiting in line for the printers! After developing the prints, I scan them to image files so I can enlarge them to the Nth degree. Works great! If it's no longer in print, then maybe I could scan and OCR the entire set?? That is if I could somehow obtain a copy!! Hmmm! If they have a price on it, then I guess it is in print! Mike

Book 1 is the old Pontotoc Co, Book 2 is the old Pickens Co, Book 3 is the old Tishomingo and Panola counties, "plus other records". jc Mike Taylor wrote: > 1890 census of Chickasaw Nation, Indian territory and other records > [compiled by] Joyce A. Just an FYI - I am bidding on a set of Oklahoma history books on EBay (www.ebay.com). It is a 5 volume (2,000 pages total) history of Oklahoma from the earliest history until its publication in 1916. As a 1916 copyright, it is in the public domain. Therefore, IF I am the successful bidder, I'll be happy to make copies of relevant sections for other counties to use as history and background. Wish me luck! Gordon Kuntz gkuntz@wavefront.com Okmulgee County Coordinator
