Haven't done much about it, as I loaned my flatbed scanner to my son, Ian, and needed to upgrade my OCR program...1500 pages is a lot of transcription! Have been "reminding" Ian that I need the scanner back soon and will start on them as soon as possible. I think the Genconnect idea is great for indexing. If space is a problem, how about storing them on the most appropriate county and having a link to the index page? Hi Everyone Again, Sorry it took me so long to surface, my job has sent me out of town most of the summer, and still have one more trip plus a vacation to take. But I hope to be back in the swing of things again soon. << Ronda, using GenConnect is a perfect solution. I'll talk with Pam and Randy today to see how we can set this up, if you'd like. >> Sounds like a plan Marti, go for it. Sounds like we have lots of help too. These books are big and very find print which means lots and lots of biographies. I have no idea what is in Volumes 1 and 2. Thanks Ronda

Ronda, using GenConnect is a perfect solution. I'll talk with Pam and Randy today to see how we can set this up, if you'd like. Another suggestion would be to post to the various mailing list that we need help typing the pages. With the GenConnect system those willing to help could just input the information direct. I can easily make copies to mail or fax to anyone willing to help. FWIW, the GenConnect system will be down for "upgrade starting at midnight on Saturday September 5, 1998...Downtime is estimated to be 8 hours max" > I purchased 3 of these volumes, a year or two ago. Hi Marti, I'd like to help with the biography transcriptions. Please let me know when it's set to go...what a great idea, Ronda. I purchased 3 of these volumes, a year or two ago. I kept one, Marti has one, and I believe Harriette Jensen has the other one. They are full of biographies. I am ready and would like to start putting these online, but the problem is where. I was thinking, why don't we have a board made on the genconnect system for the Oklahoma Biographies. Then they could all be placed in one place, and be automatically indexed. What does everyone else think. Ronda
Me too! But - I have another question. I have what I believe is Volume III of this series and have been posting the bios on line as I have time. Question - there is no index in the book I have. Is there an index in the first book which covers all the volumes? For anyone who is interested, there is a 1962 Stephens County history for auction on EBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=27899175 And by the way, I was successful with the 5 volume Oklahoma history set from 1916. I cost me a pretty penny (actually a bit more like a pretty silver dollar), but should be lots of fun. I expect to get it in 2-3 weeks and will be happy to share its contents once I get it. one of the things about it that was worth so much to me was the fact that it was old enough to be in the public domain and therefore, something we could all share among ourselves and with our visitors. Hi -- I've been asked to give a talk about what's involved in being a USGenWeb county or state coordinator. Would any of you care to share a story or true? THESE STORIES ARE NOT FOR PUBLICATION -- just a talk, and if you prefer, I'll not use your name and certainly not the names of those who might have asked the questions. Potential CCs want to know what equipment they need, what genealogical and technical expertise they need and what to expect -- in time and effort. Amusing stories are always appreciated. Thank you for any contributions. Allbest, Myra myra_gormley@prodigy.com <Prodigy Distribution List> CC: MYRA_GORMLEY
