    3. Just my opinion, but I think the name should include at least the time frame of when the book was published. Obviously, no one was writing biographical volumes of Oklahomans in 1850; but, these books aren't last years editions either. I don't think OKBios is descriptive enough for this particular project. I really don't have any suggestions for names except "Oklahoma Bios" or "Prominant Oklahomans before 1916". Since most of the bios include more than one county and I think most people will be interested in surnames, how about using the format that's in the book, e.g. "LEONIDAS HORTON MC CONNELL, M.D. The arrival of Dr. Leonidas Horton McConnell at Elmer was coincident with the opening of the village. At that time he was but......." If the site's searchable, that should be enough and would not entail trying to remember how it's "supposed to be". 3. Hi all - Let's pick a name for our collection and we can get started. "Standard History of Oklahoma - Biographies" seems little much for the title name. Suggestions - you may not like what I pick. :) Also, Nancy of GenConnect said she would put a blurb at the top of the page with book information. Examples of how KY has listed bios, special collections, etc. [bottom page] http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/Ky.html and list of special collections on the GenConnect system http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/indx/Special.html anyone know of others? Then we need to decide on a format for the subject line and the surname line so that all postings will be consistent. I've looked at Vol. III on Linnie's Haskell Co. pages http://www.rootsweb.com/~okhaskel/biolink.htm they are broken down by Name, Birth, Born, OK Residence, Related Names, Page No. That seems much for a subject line. Attempts at posting of one bio can be seen at [thanks Linnie :)] http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Ok/Unknown under BEVILL with two different subject lines. Suggestions? > Well what would coordinating involve? I know someone tentatively interested I'll ask her again. It would seem that by using the GenConnect system coordinating would entail just checking the site occasionally for a little tweaking and making sure the material gets online either by scanning or by getting copies and having them transcribed. Anyone have other thoughts? Marti

    3. OCR - Back from vacation! I have previewed several OCR software product in the past. I'd be greatly surprised if anything could beat Omni Page Pro. It is pretty pricey, though. It's price puts it more in the category of an 'Industrial Strength' OCR product. If you have massive volumes to OCR with badly shaped and hard to read fonts, OmniPage Pro does a tremendous job. With clean crisp text, it speed and accuracy is amazing. I've often wished I had a scanner with automatic form feed here at home. OmniPage just gobbles up the pages - zip, zip, zip and it's done. Temperature hit 115 a couple of days last week in Lake Havasu City Arizona! Mike ps - I work for Amoco. The Amoco that is merging with British Petroleum. This will probably get me my retirement that I have been trying to get for the last 3 years! Maybe then I can dig out all my ancestors that have been hiding! -----Original Message----- From: Harriette Jensen <hariji@sirius.com> To: OK-IT-L@rootsweb.com <OK-IT-L@rootsweb.com> Date: Wednesday, September 02, 1998 9:43 PM Subject: Re: [OK-IT-L] Resource available >>What type of scanner do you have?
