I believe she originally contacted me because of the notice I put on TEXAHOMA-Roots about the new mail list for Jefferson county, hosted by Rootsweb. I have another e-mail I will be sending to the list shortly. It will tell a little bit more of the story. David dmorgan@efn.org --- David W. Thank you! ----------------------------------------------------------------- Dear members of the USGenWeb Project, As you know a special election is being held to fill the positions of National Coordinator and Southwest/South Central County Coordinator Representative. Nominations will be open for the four week period commencing Dec 3, 1998 and ending at midnight CST Dec 31, 1998. Before you nominate someone please check to ascertain that your nominee qualifies according to the bylaws: Article VI Section 9. Nominees for National Coordinator shall have the following qualifications: at least one year (the twelve months immediately preceding an election) of continuous service and current activity as a member in good standing, and eligibility to vote within The USGenWeb Project. Qualifications of nominees for State Coordinator Representative, Local Coordinator Representative, and Special Project Representative are the same with the addition that their service shall have been as a State Coordinator, Local Coordinator, or one of the various positions associated with the Special Projects, respectively. "In good standing" is demonstrated by responding promptly to email, actively supporting researchers' efforts to find information, maintaining their website with appropriate, up-to-date content, and serving as a good example of the guidelines and standards of The USGenWeb Project. You may read this yourself at:http://www.usgenweb.org/official/bylaws.html The nominating committee will receive each nomination, and will make sure the nominated person meets the qualifications outlined in the bylaws for that position. If so, the nominees will be contacted individually and asked if they will accept the nomination. Please make sure you include your nominee's email address. Once a proposed nominee accepts the nomination his or her name will be posted at http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilhardi2/nomi.htm In a departure from the last election, because of complaints, the nominating committee will not be posting bios and pictures of the candidates. Each candidate will be responsible for putting up their own campaign/bio page. The nominating committee will place a link to the candidate's page beside their name, as soon as possible after the URL is supplied to the committee. Send your nominations to: nominate@usgenweb.org THE COMMITTEE WILL NOT ACCEPT ANY NOMINATIONS BEFORE DEC. 3, 1998. This is a story I just have to share. I finally found a lookup volunteer for Jefferson county OK by starting a mail list, of all things. This is a letter I just got from my lookup volunteer, who lives in Ardmore. Her mother, who she mentions in this letter, is 84 years young and runs the Senior Citizen Center in Waurika. A while back I posted a message asking if anyone on the Oklahoma lists were USGenWeb Archivists and got back a lot of questions. So I've set up a small page of FAQs that should help you understand how the archives work. And the OK USGenWeb Archive page has had a major face lift also. Stop by and see what's in the Archives now. -------- Original Message -------- From: Bob Bamford <essxbook@citrus.infi.net> Subject: [STATE-COORD-L] National Coordinator Annoucement Resent-From: STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com To: STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com In as much as the SC list is the only way to reach all volunteers, I would appreciate your passing this on to your CCs, TCs and any other interested parties in your states. Thank you for your cooperation. Bob ____________________________________ Hi, Call me a 90 day wonder, lame duck or whatever. I will be your NC until replaced by a newly elected NC in approximately 90 days. I would like to begin by telling you that I have absolutely no intention of running for the office of USGenWeb National Coordinator. Therefore any decisions I make will not be politically motivated. In my view the National Advisory Board MAKES the rules, policies and procedures. In short the USGenWeb Project is governed by YOUR elected board whose duty it is to represent their respective constituencies consistent with the best interests of the project as a whole. I see the USGenWeb Project National Coordinator as the person who OPERATES the project consistent with the policies established by the National Advisory Board. The volunteers on the National Advisory Board have a number of tasks ahead of them and some (an NC election for example) need to be addressed immediately. For your information, below is a list (not necessarily prioritized or complete) of the things we will be addressing over the coming days. 1. Temporary Replacement of SW/SC CC Rep 2. Election of NC 3. Establishment of a Grievance Procedure 4. Establishment of a By-Laws Review Committee 5. Selection of a Board Secretary There are many other issues we will be confronting in the coming weeks and we trust that we will receive your support and cooperation. We, like you, are volunteers. We are not here for the glory but, like you, to help the genealogical community, let's show that community the USGenWeb Project's solidarity of purpose. To: STATE-COORD-L@rootsweb.com Please pass this on to your County Coordinators: The board has adopted the following resolution accepting Nancy Trice's resignation - RESOLVED that it is with deep regret that, after days of discussion regarding the National Coordinator's resignation, Nancy Trice has advised us that she will not rescind her resignation. Please join with us in thanking Nancy for her past and continued service to the USGenWeb Project. Your National Advisory Board will now move on to selecting a temporary replacement and setting up an election for a National Coordinator to serve the balance of the NC's term. Concurrently we will be addressing the many issues that have not been addressed for the past two months. Please bear with us during this most trying time. We have always had the best interests of the volunteers at heart and will now proceed with those interests and those of the project as our continuing goal. Thank you, Betsy Mills Acting Chair
