    1. [OK-Coordinators] Pittsburg Co./New Query Graphic/Other Info
    2. Vivian Sternenberg
    3. Hi Everyone, I've been down again, and so I'm behind in updates. But, hopefully good to go again. I've created a new "Query" graphic for Pittsburg County. Please check it out if you'd like: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okpitts2/ FYI:(Pittsburg Co. submitter's) I will be updating new info submitted during the last couple of weeks. Please check pages off and on for the next few days to see if I have your info uploaded. If you do not see your submissions, it means I may not have received your email. Please send it again. One of these new worms attacked my computer, right after my upgrade a few weeks ago, and it's been a mess getting rid of it. I no longer use McAfee Virus Scan online. I have the full program on my computer to detect incoming email virus'/worms, etc. Thanks for your patience, Vivian : )

    1. [OK-Coordinators] New pioneer cemetery laws
    2. Dennis Muncrief
    3. Hello All, Fred Dittmer asked for any ideas for a topic on cemetery needs and I gave him one. He asked me to share my passion with other list to get the problem corrected. In Oklahoma, there are NO LAWS to protect Pioneer, Abandoned and Historical Cemeteries from destruction by the owner of private lands. In other words, if a farmer or rancher wants to destroy an ancient cemetery on his property, there are NO laws to prevent or punish the destruction of the graves. The laws on the books only apply to city, county or state graveyards. I went to the District Attorney in Murray County to see if he would prosecute and he said yes he would because he is a genealogist but that most DA's would not because the current state laws are so ambiguous. I have heard of farmers who pushed grave stones into a ditch to plant wheat, pushed grave stones over to build a barn, removed grave stones and put them into a boggy creek bottom to make it easier to cross a creek in wet weather. Go to this link to see my proposed laws I have sent to my state representative. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okmurray/pioneer_cemeteries.htm You my email my state representative to see if he can get anything done about this alarming trend. Rep. Danny Hilliard State Capitol Bldg., Room 442 2300 N. Lincoln Bvld. OKC, OK 73105-4885 E-MAIL: [email protected] We are not asking the landowners to do anything, just stop what they are doing. 1. [OK-Coordinators] Cemetery Talk
    2. Frederick Dittmar
    3. Greetings, I have been asked to give a talk at the Annual Oklahoma Cemetery Association meeting in June. I'm trying to put together a topic and talk. Are there problems any of you have with cemeteries that I could address? Do you have any suggestions how we as genealogist could help cemeteries? Are there cemeteries that you know of in your county that need assistance cleaning them up, that you'd like to canvass or have a scout troop looking for a community project? The lady that asked me to give the talk is trying to have a survey done by the cemeteries as to their age, which is nice to know if your looking for someone, if the cemetery is still active and selling lots, has any ethnic, family division or specializes in particular burials. (cremation, box, above ground etc.) My main reason for accepting this talk is to try to build a good relationship with the cemeteries in Oklahoma by genealogist so the doors, gates and records will be and remain open to us. 3. One more comment here! Becky, I was informed by the submitter of the Jefferson Co. burials page that it won't be updated for another year or two. I wrote him when I discovered that there was an entire group of names missing. He added them and wrote that he was told it was too big a job to make changes so no more would be made (I think he said for 2 years). Now, an update on that page is always going to look old! And, that is a rootsweb page. Sheridan Rebecca York wrote: > > What the hell! > Some of these pages will never be updated.
