Bob Chada wrote on 5/22/2002: >As far as what you are allowed to link to in the archives from your Pushmataha >OKGenWeb page, that is OKGenWeb's question to answer, not mine. <snip> -=Marti replied =- Even though the Oklahoma State File Managers new guidelines [http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~tammie/archives/guidelines.html] make the link to the companion OKGenWeb County * optional * and will * not * allow a link to the main OKGenWeb site from any _county_ archive page, OKGenWeb has no such policy of prohibiting links to the archive pages. OKGenWeb encourages links from the county page to the companion archives page to aid the researcher, not hinder them in their search for information. If you would like to have the information found on your county site, contact the submitter and ask permission to post the information at the county level also. Information that is repeated is more likely to be found by the researcher. The original goal of "The Project" was to build a site, maintain and add to it yourself and/or by submissions from others for as long as you could, pass the site to another to add to and continue the work of building a great site to help researchers now and in the future. I still agree and believe in the original goal. Marti

    1. [OK-Coordinators] Re: [OKARCHIVE-L] RE: Help
    2. Bob Chada
    3. Redgie, from an archives perspective, I have already answered your question concerning what you can link to from the archives. In my message to you of May 15, 2002 to you, I said "Any links to data and photos on the Pushmataha OKGenWeb page needs to be removed. This can only be linked if it is in the archives." (Emphasis added.) You even had that same message attached to the one you sent me yesterday where you indicate that your co-coordinators are not only threatening to quit, but asking for a complete listing of every link that needs to be removed from your archives page. I don't know how to say it any more clear than I did on the 15th, so I guess I don't understand why you don't understand that the only information and photos that you can link to from your Pushmataha County archives page is information and photos that have been uploaded to the archives. That is not anything new, and has been an archives requirement for as far back as I can remember. As far as what you are allowed to link to in the archives from your Pushmataha OKGenWeb page, that is OKGenWeb's question to answer, not mine. Bob Redgie Peck wrote: > Question.... > > Can anyone tell me if it IS allowed or is NOT allowed to link > from the County page to files in the Archives?. > > In other words, is it within the guidelines or against the guidelines to > have a link from my Pushmataha County site to files within my Pushmataha > County Archive site?. > > I don't seem to be able to get a response on this from the state Archivist > and I need this question answered quickly. > > Thank You > > Redgie > > --- Redgie Peck > --- County Coordinator > --- Pushmataha Co.
