    1. [OK-CEM] Has anyone heard of a Del Norte Cemetery?
    2. I was checking www.findagrave.com a while back while looking for a grave of my husband's m.grandmother's brother. I found the cemetery then but when I type in Del Norte, now I get the message No Match. Has anyone ever heard of this cemetery? I believe it's near Enid. Any help you can give me is appreciated. I did find the listing when I checked last year, I just can't find it now. Becky Dreger

    3. Sandy, I for one really appreciate the hard work you and Dennis and others like you are doing. I have relatives buried all over Ark and Okla and if it wasn't for people just like you working their rears off to gather the info ,I would never even have a chance of finding the people that I am looking for.Because like many others they are among the missing graves, the ones where no one really knows that they were buried there. In Marville ,Ark my gdfather William Christopher Henson was buried without a marker. When I was a child I went to his funeral. His grave is now covered by a road. They forgot about him being there! No telling how many more have been forgotten or moved.Thank you, all of you out there that are working on and in these old cemeteries.Your work is appreciated!BJM(Sue) Sincerely, An iPhone User

    3. I don't see how you have time to do much sitting on buckets if you are doing much cemetery canvassing. In the past two years, I have canvassed cemeteries in Pottawatomie, Cleveland and a few in Oklahoma counties and have over 80,000 names in my data base and on the http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcemete/okcem.htm site. So you can see I don't have much time to sit and still work a part-time job and do the canvassing. I take a clipboard for the entry and in my pockets, a plastic windshield scraper, chalk and a rag. I go down one row and back up the next writing the row and plot numbers, names, dates and comments onto the clipboard. When I return to home, I enter the data into Microsoft Excel. Then, I e-mail a copy of the file to Tammie, who places it onto the web-site. I do agree with Dennis' comments/tips. It is great that he took the time to provide so much good information. 3. Yes, I am the archivist for Comanche county and I have had several updates and new cemeteries within the last week. I still have a couple to format and post. Which ones are you interested in. 1. [OK-CEM] re: cleaning tombstones
    2. Evelynne Ritter
    3. I had never considered cleaning a tombstone. Using a very wide and soft, sable paint brush, I would "dust" the surface until I could remove as much dust and excess particles. I carry masking tape, acid free tracing paper and soft charcoal. I tape the tracing paper over what ever section cannot be read and do a rubbing. The masking tape removes easily and I have yet to have any residue left. This way I do not damage the stone, and am able to obtain the info I need. Tracing or rubbing has been used for decades and has proven to be the safest and easiest way to obtain info from the stones. Evelynne Guthrfie

    1. [OK-CEM] Bucket
    2. Debra Garner
    3. Just a suggestion on use of the bucket while reading stone. My husband works at a local sporting goods store, and brought home a wonder gift for me. It is a stool that hunters use in the woods, while sitting on their stand. It looks likes a 5 gallon bucket, but has a padded screw off lid. I carry whatever supplies I need in the bucket and this makes them accessible at all times. No need to walk back to the car or carry them in my hands. Plus the padded seat is an added comfort. In winter get the little cushions that warm up as you sit on them, we need all the comfort we can get. ha. Also a word of caution. If you are not able to take someone with you on your readings, please invest in a cell phone. You may never know when you might need one. Cudos to all that are preserving these cemeteries. I am in Arkansas, and appreciate all of you that are doing this in Oklahoma. Debra Slater Garner

    3. Bud, I believe you will find your CLEVENGER's are in the Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, OK. I canvassed that cemetery and found them without given names on the stones: B6A-R16-35 CLEVENGER MOTHER 1842 1926 B6A-R16-36 CLEVENGER FATHER 1843 1941 The cemetery has an office and the names entered in their computer. You should contact them: Fairview Cemetery 1500 N. Center St. Shawnee, OK 74801 I don't have a phone number for them.
