    3. I've heard from a couple of people, there might be an interest in field trips to cemeteries. If there is enough interest, maybe someone can mention an old one they've just discovered (I don't know that many around here) or they know of, and once a month a few of us can get together on a Saturday or Sunday, maybe take a picnic lunch or something, a camera or two maybe, and wander around looking at names and finding fascinating markers. I'm thinking about older ones I come across, seeing if there are any that might have a history, on Internet. Anyway, just putting this out to see if there's any other interest. Linda in Newalla

    1. Re: [OK-CEM] Outings Sacred Heart
    2. Linda, Oh P.L.E.A.S.E.!!!!! IF YOU GO TO SACRED HEART WILL YOU DO ME A "HUGE" FAVOR??? Please see if there is a grave there for a TATE...He was my Greatgrandfather and I have been trying my best to find out if he is buried there. Jim has helped so much in his searching and information, but I live in Texas and cannot visit Sacred Heart. Family story goes that my GGrandfather (William TATE) died in 1899 as the result of a fire. He died at Sacred Heart. I know that Sacred Heart had a fire, but that was after that, and I know that William TATE died before then. Thank you so VERY MUCH if you can find something out... Rebecca

    3. I just started taking this, so will just come out and ask if there are ever any field type trips to cemeteries in central Ok? I'm 50 and have been fascinated with old cemeteries for years. I had emailed James yesterday about Sacred Heart south of Shawnee's St. Gregory's. I had met some Brothers there while my mother from TUlsa and I were visiting the Church and museum and they told us about Sacred Heart. I want to visit there one of these weekends. There is an old Civil War era cemetery about 3 miles from my house. I'm off se29th and Peebly road between Shawnee and OKC. There are about 15 old grave markers there and according to a woman who lives behind it, most of the people, mostly children, died of cholera. IT's small, but very atmospheric. It's on se 15th, just west of Peebly, up a small rise about 1/4 mile west of Peebly. Anyway, thought I'd pop in and ask if anyone gets together for cemetery visits in this area. Linda Elston

    1. Re: [OK-CEM] Seeking obits or death dates for Alsips who lived in OK
    2. Stephanie, I'm wondering if your ALSIP family was any relation to the ALSUP family living in Jenks (Oklahoma)? There was a Kenneth ALSUP I remember, and maybe others. Just curious. I know that sometimes families spelled their names differently. Do you have any spelled with a "u" instead of an "i"? Susan Strain <><

    3. Stephanie... Try this site and use the search engine to see if you can find where they are buried: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcemete/okcem.htm If you find them, you can then request obits, etc through the county query message lists at rootsweb. Good luck! Lois in Auburn, CA

    3. Believe it our not, I was at the cemetery this afternoon at 1pm! I was getting a signature to order a tombstone for a Civil war veteran's unmarked grave. If you just want a look-up, I can check the cemetery book in our library. Otherwise, all correspondence with the cemetery goes to Grace Hill Cemetery, City of Perry, Drawer 798, Perry OK 73077. 3. Mahlon~ Thanks! "-) That would be great! "-) Do you happen to know if there are a lot of RICEs buried there? The ones I know of are as follows: Eugene J. 3. Mahlon, Thank you SO much for this information! "-) I don't know if he served in the Civil war or not. He was married on 28 Sep 1860 and had his first child on 8 Sep 1862. His next one didn't come until 1865, so it's a good possibility. If I find anything to indicate that he did serve in the Civil war, I will let you know. BTW...do you have the contact information for that cemetery? Thanks again!
