Patricia, I visited the Oklahoma Historical Society yesterday and was unable to find either of the above names listed in any of their books on Oklahoma. I found a Mountain Station in eastern Oklahoma and in the southwest section of the state the following: Mountain View Cemetery - Fletcher NE Comanche County Mountain Park Cemetery - SE Kiowa County The latter is near the Quartz Mountain area and your "White Mountain" could be a local name. You might check with the following addresses to see if they can help any. Rebecca, I went to the Oklahoma Historical Library yesterday and had 14 e-mails to search. I was able to complete research on 4. Yours was one. With out the surname at the time I could not totally complete a search. I did find out the two cemeteries are across the street from each other. They are located at the following location: 1. Sacred Heart Abbey Cemetery - Reserved for Clergy who served the Sacred Heart Mission. 2. Sacred Heart Parish Cemetery - 7 miles east of Asher on SH 39 and 1/2 mile north on NS 348 on the west side of the road. Sec 13 / Twp 6 N / Range 5 E 3. Pottawatomie Indian Cemetery - 1/4 mile south of SHPC on east side of NS348. The Cemetery has been camvased and I could look up your surname next Wednesday when I visit the Library. If you want copies of the pages with your ancestors names please send me your address directly. The cemetery is about 50 miles from my home. Data from: Tecumseh Genealogical Club - Pottawatomie County Sacred Heart Cemeteries Pages(1) 225 - 229 (2)259- 252 (3)253-254 Hope this helps some. Fred is correct in that I should have said far southeast Pottawatomie County, and the old map I have showing the cemeteries definitely shows them in Pottawatomie County, not Seminole County. So they are not at the intersection of Hwy 39 and Hwy 9A. They are on 39 but two miles west of the county line. I believe the cemetery I am looking for was called "Mountain Peak Grave Yard" in the early 1900's and it is supposedly on top of "White Rock Mountain." Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I don't have a county, but believe it may be in western Oklahoma and I don't know if White Rock Mountain is truly a mountain or maybe just the highest geographical point in the area. All help will be appreciated. Patricia
Hello, I have been corresponding with another gentleman that has helped me locate the cemeteries near Sacred Heart in Pott. Co., Ok. The following information is what he sent me. ========================================== I have located Sacred Heart on an old map that has all the cemeteries listed. The map shows two cemeteries in the same mile labeled "Sacred Heart" and one in the next mile labeled "Pottawatomie Indians". They are located in far south west Pottawatomie County near the intersection of Hwy. 39 and Hwy. 9A. The name of the cemeteries are: Pottawatomie Indian at Sacred Heart Sacred Heart Abbey Sacred Heart Parish ========================================== Is there anyone here on this list that lives near to these cemeteries that could do a lookup for me ? I would appreciate it ever so much and would be more than glad to reimburse you for any expenses. Thank you, Rebecca
I need help finding a cemetery on top of White Rock Mountain. I believe it is in western Oklahoma, but am not certain. Any information will really be appreciated. Patricia

Oh, help is needed! Does anyone on the list have any information about the Connerville Cemetery located in Johnston County, Oklahoma? Is it still an active cemetery? If so, where would I write for information? I am researching the E. Newton Kelley Family who migrated to this area from Tennessee. Some Kelley's are buried there, but do not have head stones. Hopefully, this information would be in the records. Any input into this question would be very much appreciated. Judy Walters [email protected]
Judy, I believe Tishimingo is the county seat for Johnston county. They might be able to help you. Jann
Hi Listmembers, I have a question for you. I just found out the following people are all buried in Hughes County. I would like any information that you may know about them or their family. I am still searching for Wayne Grant's second wife. I now believe she was a Bell. Hillery Bell, Luna Bell, Harold Bell, Lona Gayle, LD Robertson I would like to know where they are buried and who might be beside them. If anyone has access to the County Clerk marriage records in Holdenville please contact me. Thanks, yvonne _______________________________________________ Yvonne Henson WK: 719-265-0087 HM: 719-597-0298 "Be Prepared, It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark."
I need help in locating the grave of George Burse Phifer who was killed in Ashland, Pittsburg, OK on 24 Dec 1921. I do not know what funeral home took care of the burial or which cemetery he was buried in. Can anyone give me some suggestions about cemeteries which were in existance in 1921. Thanking you in advance. Jeannean in OK
Dear List Members: I send out quarterly reports to each list I take care of. This is the 3rd Quarter Report for the year 2000 but will be the first one you have received because of how new your list is. The Oklahoma Cemeteries Mailing List has 318 members, 228 of these are subscribed to the Regular List and 90 to the Digest List. I want to thank each of you for continuing to help make this list the success it is. I also want to thank you for your support of me and you willingness to follow the list rules. Just a reminder as to the rules of this list so that it is better for each of us. Posting of virus warnings, test messages, chain letters, political announcements, current events, items for sale, personal messages, flames, etc. (in other words - spam) is NOT ALLOWED and will be grounds for removal. Consideration for exceptions, contact me at [email protected] Also the calling for Roll Call is not allow by members of this list. If you feel the need for a Roll Call contact me and we will schedule one with a beginning time and ending time. There is a great Rootsweb site you can go to if you want to find out what Rootsweb lists you are a member of, just follow the instructions. http://passwordcentral.rootsweb.com/ If you would like to visit the Archived messages of this list, go to http://archiver.rootsweb.com/ and type in the name of the list you would like to search. There are a few items I would like to suggest for the benefit of each of us. 1. If someone posts a message to the list that should not have been posted, please just delete it. Know that I am taking care of the problem. If you post your unhappiness, then you just continue on the problem. I know it is hard when your heart has been offended, but for my sake, and the sake of the list, please just delete it. Rootsweb has a wonderful Spam Detective and it stops most of it. You should see what comes across my screen. I have to look at each of them to make sure that what was stopped was truly spam. Once in a while, one slips by though and if this happens, just delete it and go on with what we all love, genealogical research. 2. If you would put the subject of your posting in the subject line it might give you a better chance to attract someone's attention who has the information you are looking for or the attention of someone who is searching for what you are posting. I do want to thank each of you for your support of me. I remember the day I decided to adopt ONE mailing list, I was so scared. Today I am the proud List Mom of 84 of the best lists out there. I watch the problems other lists have and see how the member's treat one another and I feel blessed to have each of you on my lists. THANK YOU! Kathleen Burnett List Mom [email protected]
Dear List Members, I will appreciate it if anyone of you is from Wilburton in Latimer County and has knowledge of Lutie Cemetery. I was told recently it is still active, however, I cannot find any information. I want to locate the caretakers if possible. Thank you. Marie
Hello, all. I have recently moved the Oklahoma Cemeteries Mailing List Homepage to: http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcemete/okcem.htm Rootsweb has provided us non-bannered space for this site. Please change your bookmarks. Also with MANY MANY thanks to: Jim Woodruff, Mahlone Erickson, Robert Farrar and Bob Chada we now have about 61 cemeteries listed on our site. And there is more to come. There is some history on their website at: http://www.woodmen.com/history.htm A few years ago I was able to send a request to [email protected] and they did send me what information they had about my ancestor. I forgot to tell you that my Uncle Alvie was born ca 1904 in ARK. He died or was killed around 1929 or 1930. Thanks a bunch!
Woodmen of America have a website and they are very helpful. However, they do not keep records "forever". They sent me what they had on my great grandfather but his file was destroyed after the claim was paid. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 28, 2000 8:46 AM Subject: OK-CEMETERIES-D Digest V00 #17
