I am looking for the burial site of Thomas Shields of Eufaula, Oklahoma. Family stories say that he died in Catoosa, Ok and his death date would be between 1900-1910. He was born in 1835 He was on the census for 1900 and then disappears after that. Thanks for any and all help. Thelma

Jim, Diane & List, I live about 40 miles from the cemeteries at Sacred Heart and have visited them. There are actually 4 cemeteries there. One for the monks and one for the nuns on the grounds of the grounds of the old abbey and school. Both of these are very old and no longer used. There are few buildings left of the boarding school that once housed about 500 students. It is mostly ruins. The area is a historical site and closed to the public, other than special occasions or with permission. I was able to get permission to walk through the grounds about a year and a half ago. It is a wonderfully peaceful place. The main cemetery is in front of the current church, which is beautiful. The priest maintains the cemetery and is very helpful. There is another very old Indian cemetery across the road. The gates on it are locked and the priest indicated that they do not want people in there. He also indicated that there were many more graves than markers. It is right next to the road, but I made attempt to look at any of the headstones there. Also, I don't know what tribe or if more than one tribe used it. The area was an Indian community and the school started as a boys Indian boarding school. I get down that way occasionally, but I'm not sure when I will get to again. If you are not in a hurry, send me your information and I will go by the next time I am in the area. Have a good day, Jean

Dear List Members, I have received so many offers of cemetery inventories taken from Films located at one of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints Family History Centers that I felt I needed to find out if they were copyrighted. I received the following message and thought each of you should read it. (located at bottom of message) It says in short. We cannot copy a cemetery index or inventory from a film and then publish it on a website unless we have permission from the person who gave them permission to film the inventory. Therefore, if you send us one, we cannot use it. If you inventory the cemetery yourself, it can be used or if you send us a letter of permission from the person who inventoried the cemetery along with the inventory it can be used can be used. Thank you for helping us to do what is right regarding the copyright laws. I have received personally, many messages asking that I allow political postings and conversations on our lists during these next few weeks. My answer was No and will continue to be No. The Mailing Lists I am the List Mom for, are for genealogical purposes only. Please respect this decision and do not post them or ask for permission to post them. I will consider any and all political postings Spam and remove the sender from the list. I am sorry if this offends some of you but my decisions are made with the majority of the list members in mind. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Gina, Oklahoma does not have a "death index' as do many other states. I will on one of my next visits to the Historical Library try to look up an obit or article in the Woodward County newspapers. I'm still playing catch up from being sick. I still have some letters to write on research I've completed. Did you find out anything from the Missouri/Kansas/Arkansas links that I sent you. Did I send them?, I can't find a copy of my letter. Wasn't feel good at that time. Let me know if I did or not and I'll send the links again. My guestbook is working now, I appreciate it if you take the time to sign in. Thanks again for telling me the link was bad. Hi, Does anyone have a listing or know of one online for the Oak Park Cemetery in Ripley, Payne Co., OK? Thanks. Pat
Dear Listers or Fred, My only hope in finding the resting place for my GGGrandmother Ursula W. Womack who died December 7, 1902 is if she is listed in a common book for deaths in Major Co. OK. Is there such a thing? Also I was reminded that Major Co. was in taken off from Woods in l907 so this could also be the problem. Both of her daughters and a son were listed on the 1900 census, and she lived with one of them. I'm getting tired of waiting for those NARA retirement records for her I sent for in April. I do not have an address or phone number. I have not visited these sites--only found them on a map of cemeteries and also listed on a book named "Pottawatomie County Cemetery Inscriptions" provided by the Tecumseh Cemetery Committee, February, 1982. You might contact the Tecumseh Genealogy Society or someone else on this list. I am seeking information regarding my g-g-grandmother, Cornelia Kate (Brooks) Potts League. She was last known to be living in Mutual Twp., Woodward Co., Oklahoma, and she is believed to have died there on 15 May 1925. Is there anyone who has information on Cornelia? Also, does Oklahoma have a death index and if so, where can you access it? thanx ~gina thomas patterson~ http://hometown.aol.com/ginaburningsky/myhomepage/business.html NOVEMBER IS NATIVE AMERICAN INDIAN HERITAGE MONTH

Fred, Frederick Dittmar Do you know of any cemeteries around old Ft. Gibson, Okla? I am searching for a grave (or even an obit) for Lethia A. (Dacus) Blevens/Blevins. She died in child birth 1902. I am hoping there is a stone. I know there is a National Cemetery at Ft. Gibson, but I could not find her name in that cemetery. Hoping Jay [email protected]
