A picture taken in Piedmont, OK, of the tombstone of a family member contains a marker which has a C (like a crescent) with 7 stars within its borders, starting at the inner top of the C is a bird standing on 3 linked ovals containg the letters F, L, T, and the ovals rest on a large R. Can anyone identify the organization this marker represents? Many thanks, Bess

40 cemeteries of Choctaw Co are online at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~choctawco/directions.htm with links to other county cemeteries that are online elsewhere. Cemetery location, condition and driving directions are given. Approx 8,000 names are currently online and searchable. 3 blocks of the largest county cemetery, Mt Olivet, are also online. I'm working on the oldest blocks first and as they are completed they'll be posted on the site. Of the approx 26 blocks, around 5 are in the oldest section. Other county information such as towns/school maps are also provided. Feedback (of the non flame kind) always appreciated :) Ron
Rich, John Howard, born 23 Nov., 1878 in Ga., died 28 July, 1959, married Lillian Shelton. I don't have a date for their marriage but I do know they later lived and farmed in Bowie Co., Texas. Thanks for the help. Angela
I found that my greatgrandparents were married in Possibley Oklahoma Reservation but I can't find anything out about this place. Does this mean one or both were Cherokee? I have always heard that he was but cannot document it. Angela
Dear List Members. First I want to thank each of you for your wonderful comments regarding the Oklahoma Volunteer and Cemeteries web site. I personally am in awe at the amount of time Tammie is spending during this Holiday Season for us on this project plus the AR-Cemeteries and the MO-Cemeteries sites. As with any project when you are putting in long hours, taking care of a little one, a husband, a home and getting ready for the holidays, a few mistakes or typo's can happen. If you find one, please let us know. Tammie wants this a perfect as she can get it for us. What brought this up was a typo was found in one of the county names, and a very harsh message was sent to Tammie. I don't understand this type of response to a woman who is doing this amount of work only for the love of genealogical research and the desire to help her fellow researchers. Please be understanding if and when you do find a typo, just let us know where you found it and it will be taken care of. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

Dear List Members, I am going to leave in the morning, November 15th, for 5 days. I will be attending a Manager's Retreat for my company and will be home this coming Sunday evening. I have way to many lists to find List sitters for them, so I need to ask a favor from each of you. If anything happens on your list which is out of line and against our list rules, not matter what, PLEASE let it pass and just delete it. Know that each evening I will be checking on things from my hotel room and will take care of any problem that happened during the day. I know sometimes it is hard to not say something, but it would help me a great deal if you would just let the offense pass. One more item, if you are needing me to help you unsubscribe, be understanding if I don't respond as quickly as I try to. I will only be near the computer in the evenings in my hotel room. Sending the message more than once to the entire list will not help. I appreciate each of you and all that you do to help my life as your List Mom to run as smoothly as it does. See you on Sunday. Dear List Members. First I want to thank each and everyone of you who have volunteered to help with our Mailing List's Webpage. I am touch and in awe at the response from you and your willingness to help your fellow researcher. I received a message from our Web Mistress this morning concerned that some of you would be worried that your information has not shown up on the site yet. Please know that Tammie is working long hours, seven days a week to get all of the valuable information you have sent us on the site. She is receiving inventories and tombstone photos daily. Some of these photos need to be scanned and a few of the inventories are in paper form and need to be typed. Not only is she working on the Oklahoma Page for us, she is doing the Arkansas and Missouri Volunteer and Cemetery Inventory pages for me. We want you to know that if the inventory or tombstone pictures you sent us are not on the site yet, they will be there soon be. As of this morning Tammie is about 2 to 3 weeks behind. This is causing her to worry because her concern for you and knowing of your desire to see your inventories and photos up so they can help our list members. Again, we appreciate each of you and thank you for the unbelievable response you have given us. Our OK-Cemeteries Volunteer and Inventory Site is becoming a great tool for researching in Oklahoma thanks to you. Kathleen Burnett List Mom http://www.rootsweb.com/~okcemete/okcem.htm
I am seeking information on Pleasant Mound and Jolly Knob which were located in Pickens Co, Chickasaw Nation, Indian Territory. Today this particular area would be in SE Carter Co and NE Love Co. My paternal grandmother was born in 1906 in her parents' house at Legate and her brother was born in the same house in 1904. He swore to his death this fall he was born at Pleasant Mound. He also claimed it had a even earlier name. In "Hisotry of Love County," a Shields family biography tells of the kids walking to school at Pleasant Mound which was near Hoxbar and Jolly Knob. My relatives, that the Shields were friends with, lived less than a half mile south of the Legate school at statehood. An aunt died in 1899 and her place of death was listed as 2 miles NW of Wilson, I.T. Services to be held at Pleasant Mound and burial to follow at Pleasant Mound Cemettery. An even more brief record from another funeral home stated she died and would be buried at Legate cemetery. A posting in "The Ardmoreite" says a resident of Wilson communtiy came to purchase a coffin for this aunt to be buried in the next day at Pleasant Mound. Wilson was east of Hoxbar and was a P.O. from 1888-1907; Hoxbar was a P.O. from 1895-1926; and Legate became a P.O. in 1905-1921. The Harvey-Douglas Funeral Home in Ardmore, OK, doesn't show any listings of burials at Pleasant Mound after 1904. Did Pleasant Mound become Legate? Where waa Jolly Knob located in this triangle of Hoxbar, Wilson and Legate? I would appreciate any input on these communities. Harold in New Orleans Okie by Birth

Are there several Cemeteries in the area? I would be interested in hiring someone to photograph the grave yard and the marker, if there is one.
