Some cemeteries have pre buried in a whole section what is called a double vault for 2 people, or a vault that will hold 4 people and cover them in the ground then the plots are sold. when the buyer needs it the first person is placed in the vault, and a slab is then placed in the vault which leaves a space for the next person. My aunt went to the cemetery yesterday. When she found that Sec 5 grave 43.1 was someone else they went back to the office. the burial log for May 4, 1926 shows Alice Lamont in Section 3, Lot # 69, Grave # 6. JO this is also the way that our graves are designated in morris, ok. there are 4 graves to a lot and the 1 would indicate where your ancestor is buried. josie

Jo, Just wandering if the 43.1 could possibly be that more than one body could be buried in the same grave. As with some of my relatives in Blaine county cemeteries, there are more than one in a grave, usually an adult and a child. Just a thought. Joe, The I.O.O.F. Cemetery is located at 1913 N. Porter, Norman, OK, phone (405) 321-0623. This cemetery is located very near the Hospital. It is a very large cemetery, so I have not yet canvassed it. But you can probably find out more about you relative's burial plot by contacting the cemetery at the above phone number. I O O F in the initials for the Fraternal Group - Independent Order of Odd Fellows. The IOOF Cemetery is open to anyone for burial. They have one section in Norman that is a Catholic Burial Section and the largest section is Protestant. There is no prerequisite membership in the organization IOOF for burial in the cemetery. The IOOF only maintain and manage the cemetery.
