I am looking for information on my gr. grandfather John Thomas Richardson who had moved from Salina, Kansas to Nowata, OK in the 1930's or so. I need obituary for him as well as any other info that I can get. He died in 1947 there in Nowata. I was told that he was in the cemetery there also. I had been given cemetery info for another John Thomas Richardson that was in Asher OK, but this is not the same one as my great grandfather as the one in Asher was living there for 52 years prior to his death. If this is the case then he could not possibly be my great grandfather since Grandpa Harry was born in Ridgeway, MO in 1916. The J. T. that was in Asher was living in Asher way before my Grandpa Harry was conceived. I would appreciate any help with this that I can get. Barbara, There is not a single Nuner listed in the Old Enid Cemetery, or the Garfield Co. Books. I looked at the Catholic Cemetery records, and the early Memorial Park records.. Sorry. Thanks for the try. I don't recognize Fannie, but several of the generations born 1850-80 moved from West Texas to Sayre, Mangum, Erick, Rocky so it is likely that she would be a cousin. I'll have to check... BTW, I ended up in West Oklahoma unexpectedly this week so had the chance to actually go to Texola and Erick... Found France's son & d/l in Erick, but no luck on her. There are an extremely large number of graves at Texola marked with white iron crosses, no inscriptions. joe. -----Original Message----- From: Frederick Dittmar [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, February 23, 2001 7:46 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [OK-CEM] F. Hi Penny, My "Humble" line lived in Vernon, MO at one point. Do you have any info from the early 1900's? I live in Tampa, FL and the first place I went to was the LDS, but I didn't have much success. One night when I went, another researcher told me to try the library downtown. I have found alot of info, but they don't have a soundex for MO at all. I thought they told me that a soundex wasn't created for this state. But, you have used one for MO? Do you have a list that shows the years the soundex is available for MO? I need to find the late 1800's to early 1900's. I found my Humbles on the 1910 census for OK, but want to track before that time. I found the father and son on this census and the information conflicts. According to the son's census, (Lon C. Humble) his father (John D. Humble) was from Iowa and his mother (Rachel Ann Wilson) was from Missouri. But when I look up John Humble his census shows that he was from Illinois and so was his wife. (Oh, how confusing! My instinct says go with John's census, but what if the census taker put the wrong info) Any help is appreciated! Lois, that is an idea I had not thought of. Thanks. James Franklin Davidson died 13 Jan 1961 in Enid. Is there anyone there who could do a look up for me? Caroline died 10 Aug 1978, and you would think there would be a death cert. for her, but no, and we have also checked the paper for an obit without success. Can any one tell me of any Cemeteries near Dewar or in Dewar? My Great, Gr, Gr, Grandmother Sarah Catherine "Katie" Mckee. died near Dewar. Her death cert reads, Place of death Near No. 5 mine Oklahoma Coal Co., Near Dewar. (Okamulgee County July 21, 1914) This is all I have to go by. Kay Harding - Just got a bit of the search for William HOSS, and saw the link to California. As there is an online Death index for 1940 - 1997, thought I'd try a lookup, you never know. William might have died in OK and was buried in CA ? Or he could have visited the family and passed away there. Worth a look. There were 4 hits for William HOSS, only ONE was born in Oklahoma, a William A HOSS born August 7, 1909, mother's maiden name was HOPKINS. He died in Santa Clara county on Oct 25, 1965 at age 56. This may not be a link at all, but it is intrigueing. The ages are probably not right also. Did they have any children/siblings [who might be named for this William HOSS] who accompanied the other family to California ? If you are interested, check for an obituary volunteer in California who can see if there was an obit on this William in Santa Clara county. You can see this database at : http://userdb.rootsweb.com/ca/death/search.cgi If I remember right, you can get births by substituting 'birth' for the word 'death' in the above URL, however you cannot get marriages by doing the same. Patti, I went to the Oklahoma State Map and found Hitchita in McIntosh County not Garfield which is on the other side of the state. There are 60 cemeteries in the county. Below is what I found in one.
