    3. Thank you a million for looking this up for us. This is why Walter and Caroline are lost to us. Old James Franklin had three children, Fred, Walter and Caroline. Whoever wrote the obit didn't know about them either. We have no idea when Walter died (we think he must be dead, born 1896) and he may have been alive then. Fred, my husband's dad, didn't die until Sept of 61, and Caroline died Aug 78, and we cannot find her body. This is extremely frustrating and sad for us, and if anyone has any ideas, we want to hear them. 1. RE: [OK-CEM] Central State Hospital
    2. Joe Harrington
    3. I was just at the Griffin Memorial last week. They do have a listing of burials in the medical records office. I am not sure when they stopped burials at Rock Creek (or if they even have stopped). They did not begin until the 1930's. The grave I was looking for was at Norman IOOF, only a couple of blocks away at Porter & Rock Creek. Norman is not far from Grady county, not real sure where Bailey is, but there probably isn't anywhere in the county more than an hours drive from downtown Norman. joe harrington -----Original Message----- From: Ruby Nell Nicholson [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, February 25, 2001 4:41 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [OK-CEM] Central State Hospital Gene, I have a death certificate for my great grandfather's son Benjamin (Ben) Wood, born in 1884, died in 1953 and it says that Ben died in Norman OK at Central State Hospital. This means that Ben died in a Mental Institution, is that not true? Since I live in Alabama I was not familiar with the mental hospitals in OK. His obituary in the Ada, OK Evening News said that he had a grave side service in Bailey, OK. His father and mother, Richard R Wood (1849-1908) and Sarah Freeny Alexander Wood (1848-1915) and sister, Mary Ann Wood Ward (1889-1969) are buried in the Bailey Cemetery next to each other, but Ben's grave is not there. There is space but no unmarked grave is apparent. The cemetery listing does not mention Ben Wood as being buried there. Any Suggestions? Could he really be buried in the cemetery on the hospital grounds? When were the last people buried there? 1953 and after? I plan to come to Grady Co, OK and some surrounding counties for further research in Mid-May, 2001. The Robert Clay Freeny family descendants are having a reunion at Boggy Depot State Park Memorial Weekend, 2001 and I plan to be there. Richard and Sarah Wood met at Boggy Depot Choctaw Nation, I T and lived near there until 1898 when they moved to Grady County (Bailey) to receive the land allotments for their Choctaw by Blood. Sarah Freeny Wood and two children, Ben and Mary Ann Wood received property in and around Bailey, OK. I would appreciate any suggestions about research in the areas including Masonic records, etc. Gene, I always have appreciated your interest and knowledge of the areas of Indian Territory where my ggfather Richard Wood came in 1876. I sent you the photos of Bailey, cira 1905. 1. [OK-CEM] From List Mom - Help Needed.
    2. Kathleen
    3. Dear List Members: Tammie Chada, the Web Mistress of the OK-Cemeteries Inventory and Volunteer website is in need of helpers. If you would be interested, you need to have the ability to work with .txt files and a database program like Excell, Access or Works. We can't tell you the exact amount of time that will be needed. We go days and don't need help but then for a week we are in desperate need. Once all of the cemetery inventories are caught up that are waiting to be entered, the time you would need to spend on the project would be easier to determine. These sites are becoming so successful that we are now constantly receiving new data that needs to be entered and then can be uploaded to the site. This does not even address the thousands of photos that are waiting for Tammie to upload. If you would be interested in becoming a part of this project we would love to hear from you. Your time helping us with this project will allow us to continue all four state Cemetery Inventory and Volunteer Sites, Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri and Oklahoma. 3. Gene, I have a death certificate for my great grandfather's son Benjamin (Ben) Wood, born in 1884, died in 1953 and it says that Ben died in Norman OK at Central State Hospital. Thanks again, Nell Nicholson -----Original Message----- From: Gene Philips <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Tuesday, February 20, 2001 9:59 PM Subject: Re: [OK-CEM] mental hospitals of OK >At 08:49 PM 02/20/2001 -0600, you wrote: >>I'm not sure if we are talking about just Mental hospitals or the State >>hospitals for the mentally retarted. > >State Hospitals is what they were officially called.
