I think that a lot of people purchased these certificates. I have a copy of one that one of my uncles had purchased in the early 1920's. Back then, companies like American National (I believe) sold insurance policies for as little as 25 cents or so a week. The burial policies were done in the same vein. In our economy today, the policies would be useless. It could be some type of burial insurance from a local funeral home. In this area of southeastern OK the local funeral homes would sell small burial policies that provided for a certain amount to be paid toward burial costs or funeral costs. These were usually only good through the funeral home that sold them. The ones that I am familiar with during the 1960s and 1970s would indicate that you were a member of such and such burial association, which was usually the name of the funeral home where you purchased the burial policy. These small policies were usually in the amount of $200 or so and the individual would pay about $10 a year for them. Jean Masoner Are you researching the MASONER/MASNOR/MASNER surname? My experience with burial certificates is that they are somewhat like burial deeds. It may have been a precurser to the "Perpetual Care" certificates one can get these days from rural cemetery associations- your "guarantee" that by paying the appropriate fees the grave will be cared for (mowing, etc). I hope this helps....Mahlon Erickson ----- Original Message ----- From: "Deda Bown" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2001 5:08 PM Subject: [OK-CEM] Burial Info > I have a copy of a certificate The Idabel Mutual > Burial Association. I canvassed the Osborn Cemetery twice- once in 1988 and again in 1992. I was even trapped in the cemtery when the cattle herd surrounded my car and the graveyard. The graveyard was a half mile from the Post Office of Windom (established 1889/1890). It was very overgrown with only about 15 to 20 readable stones, plus at least as many field stones made of sandstone. I have identified many people as buried there based on funeral home records and obituary notices. It is very small and would not take a group of people long to fix it up. If you do come in to work on it, give me a call. I'm in the Stillwater phone book.....Mahlon Erickson ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, February 11, 2001 5:06 PM Subject: [OK-CEM] Abandoned Cemeteries > I have an old family cemetery that I just found not to long ago and have as > yet been unable to get it cleaned up, I have back problems and can not do > alot of lifting, bending and stuff like that. Sandy....I have personally been to Sinnett Memorial Cemetery 4 times and have a list of all stones there on my computer at home. I will check to see if your people are there. Also, my database is actually for all cemeteries in Pawnee County, with additional information from old cemetery censuses, funeral home records and some obits. So if the name turns up in another cemetery, I will let you know of that.....Mahlon Erickson PS...I do not have the location with me, but it is a mile west of Highway 64 about a mile or two south of where highway 64 curves southeastward towards the bridge over Keystone Lake. I will send a legal description later. The cemetery one mile east of Hallet is Bethany cemetery (on both sides of the county road). Sinnett Cemetery is the to which graves from Keystone Cemetery are said to have been moved when Keystone Lake flooded the area and the town of Keystone was flooded.....MGE ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2001 12:59 PM Subject: [OK-CEM] Sinnett Cemetery location? My ACKLEYs and Richard CHILDERS arrived in Pawnee County in 1878 and are allegedly buried in the Sinnett Cemetery. Various notes that I've seen from other researchers put this cemetery in Tulsa and/or Cleveland and/or near Pawnee. I happened to be in Cleveland this weekend (without my notes...This was a spur of the moment search!) and asked at a local funeral home. A kind man directed me to a location one mile east of the convenience store in nearby Hallett. We arrived near sunset, found no identifying sign on the small, well-kept cemetery but made a quick walkthrough. Found no ACKLEYs, but am not certain that I was even at the right location. My Ackleys have been buried for so long that I am afraid their tombstones might have deteriorated or are covered by the earth from some hard rainfall's mud. I hope to return and do a "proper" search sometime but thought I would ask you all first: Anyone know where the SINNETT CEMETERY is located? ACKLEY, Sherman b. 1827 in PA>WV>KS>Keystone, I.T. and Richard CHILDERS (d. 1891) m. Lucy Ann ACKLEY (d. 1888). Thank you, Sandy

I can't seem to find my g-grandmother Elizabeth Mintie/Minnie Hill (Newton-Davis)1883-1930. I am almost positive she died in OK. somewhere on the border of AR but could be wrong. Her husband had a burial deed in Idabel and Broken Bow OK at the end of 1929. I don't know it that means anything. They originally started out in Crawford CO AR. I don't even know what funeral home or how to go about finding out. I have searched up and down the state line on both sides and can't find anything. I don't know where else to look. I do know that one of her sons went back to her grave years ago and put a headstone on her grave, but no one can remember where. To get a death certificate I need the name of the funeral home. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks, Deda __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Get email at your own domain with Yahoo! Mail. http://personal.mail.yahoo.com/

Dear Deda To find out what your G-Grandmother died from you might try getting a death certificate from the Ok State Vital Records. I don't know for sure but if you go to www.state.ok.us I think you will find the information so that you could order a death certificate. Death certificates are very helpful. Her son had gone back to her grave years ago and put a head stone on it but no one can remember where he said it was. He died 1987 I know she died around 1930 and I think somewhere in McCurtain CO OK. I found a Burial deed my G-Grandfather bought Dec 1929 and it had both Idabel and Broken Bow OK listed on it so I assume that she died and was buried some where there. would also like to find out how she died but don't know how. Kelli, It probably won't be much help but here is the link to the page where Levi and Etta are buried. I don't find a listing for the Adams on those pages. Is there anywhere else those two might have been buried...or do you know?
