Jeanene: If you get a chance, I have some family members who may be buried there. Their names are HUDSON, MOONEYHAM, BLAYLOCK, and CHAPPELL. I think the first two names are the most probable. Anything would be helpful. Thanks so much. I live in California and I have always wanted to go out to Oklahoma and Arkansas, the area where most of my relatives are from. My families are those that came to California during the big "Okie" migration. I can still remember my grandparents going back for "Dedication Day" every year. I appreciate the replies re: my search for the grave sites of Robert J. & Mary Ann Blackburn, Lincoln/Payne Cos. OK. My Robert Blackburn was the only one of the family that went to OK & all his children were girls. However, I will contact the Blackburn at the OHS; perhaps he can help. Keith Johnston
Yes, YES, Mahlon, those are my ACKLEYs! I'm thrilled to get this data from you, including the legal description. And your records have given me dates I don't have. I am anxious to see the Sinnett location myself this weekend. While I'm there, CAN I LOOK UP A MARKER FOR ANYONE? Please let me know. (...don't mean to "shout;" I just want that phrase to jump out at the speedy readers) I'm also glad to know the name of the Hallet cemetery I saw last weekend (Bethany). Perhaps the sign had fallen down and I missed it. As I stated earlier, it is very well-kept, gated with a chain length fence, with both several post-Civil War era markers (fading fast!) and new tombstones. I remember seeing familiar names: HART and THORNBRUGH among them. Thank you so much for your two replies and sharing your info. And I certainly appreciate your efforts in canvassing cemeteries. Sandy
I will be in Keota this Sat. and Sun. I will be attending a funeral for William Edward Greeson. I do not know the name of the cemetery. I can look for other than my family names, send me name and approx. date, I will be happy to look for you. As you may know, the head of the Oklahoma Historical Society and the museum, etc., is Robert BLACKBURN, Jr. I knew his father, too--Bob BLACKBURN, Sr, was a history teacher at a junior college near Seminole, I believe. But he had lived as a youngster at Claremore. You could just pick up the phone and call Robert Jr at the OK Hist Soc in OKC....reba
I checked my Payne Co. OK Cemetery Index published in 1993 and did not find Robert or May Blackburn listed. They may be in an unmarked grave somewhere, or buried elsewhere. I do not have a list for just Osborn Cemetry. My list is an alphabetical listing of nearly 38,000 people buried in Payne County, with a number code for each person for the cemetery of burial. But there still are policies like that. Maybe not for such small amounts. My mom still has one -- I just figured it out it is less than 25 cents per week -- but she pays yearly for $500 if you are out of state -- other wise I think it pays for the funeral. In a message dated 3/6/01 6:18:03 PM, [email protected] writes: << I think that a lot of people purchased these certificates. I have a copy of one that one of my uncles had purchased in the early 1920's. Back then, companies like American National (I believe) sold insurance policies for as little as 25 cents or so a week. The burial policies were done in the same vein. In our economy today, the policies would be useless. Jacque >>
Can I get the list of people buried at the Osborn Cemetery that you have? I would appreciate it. Thanks Kelli
No, thats all I know about them, Thank you for you help. Kelli
I checked my Pawnee Co. Database and find 17 Ackleys buried in Sinnett Cemetery. The oldest birth dates are for the following: Samuel 90y 8m 11d-9 Jan 1908 H of Sarah Sarah 30 May 1824-16 Feb 1902 W of Samuel Sherman 1860-1945 H of Martha Martha J. 1873-1964 W of Sherman Abe L. 1862-1943 H of Josie Josie 1873-1963 W of Abe I did not find any Childers buried in the cemetery. Nor did I find Richard and Lucy Childers in my database. I do still have three sections of the big cemetery at Cleveland to canvass. Sinnett Cemetery is located in Cimarron Twp., Pawnee Co. OK in Sec 14 T20N R9E (I believe in the NE corner of the section). I hope this is the information you need!
