Catoosa has a library now, 517 South Cherokee, Catoosa OK.,74015. At one time City Hall, 208 South Cherokee, Catoosa OK., 74015 had a list of most buried there. Duck Cemetery is to small for an office. Hope this helps some. sorry, thay's in Choctaw County. Grandpa buried in 1932.
Gene, thanks for response. Property is described as , The NE 1/4 of Section 32, Township 7 South, Range 19 East. Any maps etc. of that area would be great. Thanks again, Barbara Durant-Parker
Dennis, thank you for your help. I live in California, can this be done on-line or by mail.? Thanks again, Barbara Durant-Parker
Lois, thanks for the cute story. Barbara
I have been told that my husband's great grandfather, Isaac S. Bailey is buried in the new Melette Cemetery in McIntosh County, Oklahoma. When we went last summer to visit Oklahoma, we found the cemetery, but he had no headstone. We found other BAILEY who were related to this line who had headstones. There was no main office to ask questions, but how can I verify that he and possibly his first wife Deliliah Manard Bailey are buried there? I tried to find his death certificate in Oklahoma City, but they didn't show it on file for that county. He died March 20, 1924. He was born Sept. 4, 1848 in Tennessee. I searched in the Eufaula, Oklahoma library where funeral home records were stored but couldn't find him. Back in 1924 could he have died in a neighboring county and been transported and buried in McIntosh County? Was this normal? Delilah and Isaac divorced and she lived supposedly until she was 101 years old. Isaac remarried Katherine Katy Bartlett and she is supposedly buried in Dick Duck Cemetary At Catossa, Oklahoma, Rodgers County. I've been trying to find proof, but no luck so far. What do you do when the cemetery doesn't have an official office? Robin Kesterson-Bailey [email protected] __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? FROGVILLE in Southeastern Choctaw Co, 9 miles sw of Ft Townson. A Post Office from Oct 29,1897 to Aug 15 1933. Took it's name from the plethora of frogs so large they reputedly "ate young ducks"
Barbara --- Give us any legal description of the land, that you have, and I may be able to help you. I have all kinds of maps of Oklahoma. We will give it a try. Good Hunting, GENE BREWINGTON of OKC.
Barbara, Go to your nearest abstractor and he will show you exactly where the land is located, or the county clerk for the county of burial will show you. Good luck.....Reba
I don't believe so, Lois. At least I've never known there to be a relation between the two names. But I only learned about this surname recently. Do you have Atchley's with similar dates/locations? My "oldest" Ackley came from PA. Come to think of it, perhaps this topic is not relevant to this particular list. (Oh, and I can't resist....) Our gracious List Mom is teasing us with a hint of a "good" brawl of a list somewhere else in Rootsweb-Land. For those of us who let The Sopranos and OU Football satisfy our violent urges, I admit to a WEE BIT OF CURIOUSITY about that bad, bad list to which she refers. Just kiddin'! It sounds ugly and I'm thankful for friendly, helpful lists such as this. ~Sandy (Presently Caught Up in The Sopranos' Hype) ==================== <Date: Sun, 11 Mar 2001 11:54:32 -0600 <From: "Donald Gilbert" <<Sandy and Malcom; Is it possible that your ACKLEY"S are the same as <ATCHLEY???? Thanks for the information on the two "new"Ackleys at Sinnett Cemetery. I had hoped to publish my database printout of all Pawnee Co. Cemeteries, but have been unable to get back there the past year to finish the research. I still have 3 sections of Cleveland's cemetery to walk and several small cemeteries to check (individual family sites I have heard about.) Hopefully this summer I will be able to finish the Cleveland Cemetery (about 15 hours of reading and copying tombstone info left) andrewalk the rural cemeteries and then make the information available to the public. I'm glad I was able to help you! Dear List Members, I belong to many mailing list besides the ones I am List Mom for. I had a real eye opener this weekend on several of them and it made me appreciate each of you more than you will ever know. I saw members putting each other down, demeaning one another, screaming at each other if one could scream via an e-mail. I saw new members leave because they were made to feel foolish only because they did not know the rules of the list. I feel blessed to be the List Mom of your list and I thank you with all of my heart for the manner in which you handle yourselves on it and for the way you treat each other. Because of each of you I am able to take care of as many lists and I do - and love each and every moment of it. Kathleen Burnett List Mom

YAY! Because of your help, earlier today I found the graves of my G-G-G Grandparents: Samuel & Sarah Ackley under a large cedar tree at the Sinnett Cemetery. There were 17 other Ackleys amidst other tombstones nearby with surnames of: PRICE, BOGGS, ZICKEFOOSE, McCOLLOM, and GAROUTTE. (if any one is interested, contact me) You mentioned having 17 Ackleys in your database, Mahlon. We found 19 legible tombstones. You may want to add these two new markers: 1. ACKLEY, Loyd - b. 3 MAR 1925; d. 28 SEP 2000. (I was curious about him and searched the Tulsa newspaper archives for an obit, but only found a death notice for him as having been a resident of Cleveland) 2. ACKLEY, Thomas A. - b. 27 JUL 1930; d. 23 SEP 1999. (The Tulsa "World" newspaper had a notice of his death in the 9/24/99 issue under "State/Area" deaths for the town of Adair) I snapped photos and wrote down the names/dates for my Ackleys, but don't know whether it is appropriate for me to list them here or not. Will gladly share if I'm contacted "off list". Thanks again, Mahlon, for maintaining records and sharing your hard work! ~Sandy <From: "Mahlon Erickson" <[email protected]> [snip]
