I guess the "gateway" for postings to the GenConnect Board is not open for this list, as I posted this yesterday and have not seen it appear here on the OHWOOD-L, so am sending in this way. Thanks for reading my query. Merry Christmas to all. Sue Downhill sudown@cwnet.com http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/Wood/47 Looking for further information on Melinda McAuley who married John W. Van Valkenburg; Marriage Records for Kinderhook RDC, show her recorded as "Lucinda"; 7 July 1827. John Van Valkenburgh - Lucinda McAuley. They had a son John McAuley Van Valkenburg, born 26 Aug 1829, bap. 30 Sept 1829, Kinderhook, Columbia Co., NY. Have information on the Van Valkenburg line, lacking information on Melinda Mc Auley. Melinda and John W. went west to Wood Co., OH about 1850. There is a Peter MCCOLLY buried 1854, who died of Cholera, in Perrysburg Township, Wood Co., OH. "Commemorative Historical and Biographical Record or Wood County, Ohio; its past and present, illustrated.", J. H. Beers & Co., Chicago, 1897. Pages 356 - 414. Has a person by the name of J. L. Mc Colley listed as a Washington Twp. Trustee for 1870, p 407. Early Schools - it states the "Washington" school house, near John McColly's, completed in 1842, was the first frame school house in the township, it goes on to say that the cemetery has spread over the school site, page 409. On page 412 under Municipal Elections, there is a C. W. Mc Colley elected in 1894, as councilman for the long term. Churches, page 413, gives a C. W. Mc Colley as served as an elder in the First Presbyterian Church of Tontogany, incorporated in 1867, organized September 4, 1861. Tontogany Lodge, No. 755, I. O. O. F., given on page 414, was chartered May 20, 1887, and instituted August 4,1887, with the following charter members: J. W. Van Valkenburg, C. W. Mc Colley, among others. The roll of past grands lists C. W. Mc Colley, 1889; and as secretary in 1890 for it's sixty-six members. Continuing on page 414 under Walter Wood Post, No. 48, G. A. R., being formerly organized March 23, 1881, lists I. B. Van Valkenburg, J. L. Mc Colley, B. F. Davis, as members; with I. B. Van Valkenburg as past adjutant in 1892; it had sixteen members in good standing of the forty-four ex-soldiers residing in the township. The citation above is given to support a theory that Melinda Mc Auley's name could have been spelled Mc Colley or Mc Colly and that perhaps this is a brother or father listed as J. L. Mc Colley, John Mc Colly, C. W. Mc Colley, as of Dec. 2000, no birth of Melinda Mc Auley has been found. She is found in Baptism records of the Kinderhook DRC for the baptism of her children as Melinda Mc Auley and Mc Cauley. DRC, Kinderhook, Columbia Co., NY, Baptism records for sons John Mc Auley Van Valkenburg #6355 and William Schyler Van Valkenburg #6430 have Melinda's maiden name spelled two different ways: Mc Auley and Mc Cauley. Born two years apart, 1829 & 1831, respectively. Thanks, Sue Downhill, sudown@cwnet.com
