Weston, Sept. 30--1937? Recollections of a happy event of 50 years ago were vividly recalled Sunday when Mr. and Mrs. Owen Mercer celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. The door of their spacious home on West Main Street was wide ajar to receive the 54 guests who came to congratulate them. The home was beautifully decorated with tall baskets of marigolds and other flowers of golden hue. Mr. and Mrs. Mercer received their many friends graciously and the hum of voices throughout the day had the flavor of reminiscence. The color note of gold was further carried out in the dining room with gold colored favors, gold tinted china and table linens, together with two large bride's cakes decorated with "Fiftieth Wedding Anniverary" in large letters of golden hue. Covers were laid for 54 guests. At 3 o'clock in the afternoon Ramon Borough, little granddaughter, bearing a bouquet of yellow roses and another granddaughter, Mrs. Modesta Clapp and husband, preceded the bride and bridegroom of 50 years, as they slowly decended the open stairway thru the hall into the parlor to the beautiful strains of the wedding march. Miss Harriet Dewitt was at the piano. Rev. W.A. Wolfe officiated as Mr. and Mrs. Mercer renewed their vows. While all stood, Mrs. W. A. Wolfe sang softly "I Love you Truly."
