Oh my goodness, Gene, I hit paydirt!!!! This is MY Thomas Smith!!! Bertie was the twin of Albert, and Bertie died as an infant. Rebecca Smith is Thomas Hiram Smiths' mother! All I had previously was from the LDS, which listed Thomas parents as "Charles Smith and Rebecca____?" Also, I have listed as a son of TH & SA a son, Chester Corwin Smith, b June 21, 1876, the same date as Clifford C. Smith. Could have been a twin, as I know that Chester Corwin Smith moved out to Montana, married and had a family. Or else he changed his name somewhat, but not the initials! Death for Sarah A. Smith from LDS says "bet 1900-1906 OH". Now for the confusing information..... I had requested the land entry files for Thomas H. Smith, veteran of the 3rd OH Cavalry, homesteading in South Dakota (where his daughter and husband-- my gg grandparents-- were also homesteading. According to this file, in 1892, Thomas states that he is a widower living with one son. BUT, the online image of the Civil War pension file for Thomas H. Smith, 3rd OH Cavalry, states that his widow, Sarah A. Smith, filed for pension benefits in 1893. I have the regiment roster for the OH 3rd Cav, and there is only one Thomas H. Smith. Could he have remarried, to another Sarah A.?? I doubt it. So you see, I am totally confused. I would love photocopies of any records you might have, and I would gladly make a donation to the WCOGS to cover your time and effort. To tell you the truth, I never thought I would find Thomas. I have been waiting 5 months for his military pension file from NARA. Thank you so very, very much. I am absolutely thrilled! Regards- Mary Tiernan Fenton MI
