Dear Debbie, I will look in the book tomorrow. (It was a great resource when writing the history of Trinity United Methodist (formerly EUB) Church in Bowling Green. Wood County Gen. Soc. has all of Rev. Wallen's remaining books in the office and are for sale for $8.00 + $3.50 P&H. Apparently the glue used in the books was unsuitable, as all of the books have to be handled carefully. Vicki, Ohio Wesleyan is the archives for the West Ohio United Methodist Conference. The school was always Methodist, but does have quite a few records forhe EUB churches. Whereas the East Ohio Conference has a larger holdings of UB and EUB churches, as the EUB conference headquarters were in located in Sandusky. The holdings are presently on the campus of Methodist Theological School of Theology in Delaware, OH. Bill Drown is the curator and may be contacted at wdrown@cros.net. Please contact him before visiting the archives.(419)783-8994 Susan Cohen is the curator at Ohio Wesleyan and may be contacted at SJCOHEN@cc.owu.edu Please contact her in advace if you wish to visit. Vicki, I too have attempted to locate the old church records at Union Hill, but to no avail. I believe my father-in-law remembers when the church was still in existence. I will contact the two curators for the Evangelical United Brethran Church archives for Ohio with the possibility of the records being on deposit in either facility. By the way, I looked up Aaron Grover in the 1897 Wood County Historical Book and under his son George, found the family had lived in Green Springs, Seneca County, Ohio before moving to Wood County. Of course this source is not official, but but worth checking out. If you are not aware of this book, there are several listing for Grover families, including all of George's children and spouses. I am fairly new to the list so I hope I am not repeating an already-discussed question! My ggggrandfather was Aaron Grover (I have posted about him in the past), born in New York in 1801, married Mary Ann Davis in New York, moved to Delaware County, Ohio for many years then to Wood County, Ohio. He is buried in the Union Hill Cemetery near Bowling Green, Wood County, Ohio. He was a minister and we have found several references to marriages that he had performed but never a reference to the church name. In the Union Hill Cemetery tombstone transcriptions book published by the Wood County Gen Society that I have, it shows on old United Brethren Church location on the cemetery grounds. Also on Aaron's tombstone it says Elder Aaron Grover. How can I find out if he was a member of the church there or possibly even involved with the ministry? Are there records from that church available? Any help is greatly appreciated! Vicki, The United Brethren (sometimes United Brethren in Christ) and Evangelical denominations merged in the late 1940s to form the Evangelical United Brethren Church (EUB). The EUB church then merged (maybe in the 1960s) with the Methodist to form the United Methodist Church. There are archives of the EUB Church held at United Theological Seminary in Dayton, Ohio. The archives of the Methodist Church are held at Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio. I would suggest that you write to the EUB archives in Dayton and inquire whether they have any record of Aaron GROVER. I am sorry that I don't have the specific address (it might be 1810 Harvard Blvd) but you should be able to find it with a search using Yahoo or Google. You might also want to look at the records available through the FHL <http://www.familysearch.org>. Quite a few of the Wood Co church records have been filmed; I do not recall if this includes the United Brethren Church. You might also want to check the catalogue at the Center for Archival Collections (CAC) for Wood Co church records. Hope this helps. Hi folks, I was happy to receive the Jan-Feb 2001 Newsletter of the Wood C. Chapter OGS today. Interested in the announcement of work on "Bowling Green Circuit Methodist Episcopal Church Records". (Page 4) Could anyone working on the project please watch for ELDER surnames? Needing especially those death dates and locations of John ELDER and Mary MOREHOUSE ELDER, about 1860, around Liberty and Portage Townships. My grandfather Martin Paschal Elder was a Methodist minister in Washington State and Montana, so I'm hoping some Wood County Methodist church records might have more information about his relatives. Thanks for the good work on the newsletter. -- Nancy Elder Petersen, Library Internet volunteer Vancouver, Washington, USA http://www.teleport.com/~nancyp/elder.htm

I just joined yesterday, and am researching people named Gingery or Gingerich. I have visited the Wood County Public Library: Online Obituaries Index and found an obit of a Christian Gingerich in 1887 that I would like to get a copy of. Does anyone know how to order an obit from them, or have their address? Richard
Hi folks, Oops, maybe that was for Delaware County, Troy Township Cemeteries. Looks like I got caught in the Religious meaning of ELDER. You can tell I'm getting frazzled trying to find a clue to the location of John ELDER and Mary MOREHOUSE ELDER. They should be near Liberty or Portage Townships of Wood Co. Hi folks, Still looking for the burial location for my gg-grandfather, John ELDER, b. abt 1805 (in 1850 Liberty Twp census, he's 45)-- He may have died soon after the 1860 census, and about the time all 3 of his sons enlisted in the Civil War. I just found a strange entry for some John ELDER's, in TROY Township Cemeteries Index, where the Catholic Elder's should be. I know there was at least one son John in that Troy family, b. abt 1843, but this looks like more of them, and listed under B for BIGGS!!! Could someone check to see if they can find birth and death dates for these 4 John ELDER's: Posted here: http://www.gendex.com/users/wr8aop/cocems/5tr.htm ...Troy Township Cemeteries Index ..... Hi Everyone! I am searching for my great-grandparents' ancestors. I have most of their descendants but need their parents! They are Aaron C. GROVER (1801 - 1873) and Mary Ann DAVIS (1802 - 1871). Aaron was a minister. They were in Livingston County, New York for the 1830 census. Their son George Montrevill GROVER was born in Sandusky County, Ohio in 1839. They appear on the Delaware County, Ohio census for 1840, 1850 and 1860. Then they were in Wood County, Ohio for the 1880 census and both died in Bowling Green, Wood County, Ohio soon after. I have seen their tombstones in the Union Hill Cemetery in Bowling Green. I am lacking info about their life in New York and their parents, sibs, uncles, aunts, etc. Willing to share info. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks -- Vicki Ashton

Is anyone out there researching this Baker from Wood Co.? He was born in 1820, d. 1880. Married to Barbara Lindley who was born 1849, d. 1905 in Wood Co. Did they have any children? Do you have info on any of Barbara's siblings? Thanks. Pat WCOGS #1291
I may have asked this before, but I've run in to many dead ends and am trying everything again. So, is it possible to get a death certificate from 1891 in Wood Co., and what information will be on it? Looking for the parents of Jared L. Lindley b. 1821, d. 1891 in Wood Co. buried in Perry Center Cemetery. He married first in Seneca Co. in 1845 but I find no trace of him living there or any other Lindley. He lived in Hancock co.in 1850, but I can find no other Lindley there either. His marriage certificate of 1845 does not list parents. He was married again in 1870 in Wood co. and 1885 in Sandusky, Oh. Does anyone know if it's probable that either of those might show who his parents were? Thanks. Pat WCOGS #1291
I am searching for a part of my family that sort of disappeared. I know that Adam was born to Christian and Eve Bates in Fayette Co, Pa. In 1811 they went to Stark County Ohio. In 1832, Christian died and Andrew Bates and family went to Sandusky Ohio, and I know where the descendants of that family is. Most are still in the Sandusky area. But Andrews Brother Adam is a different Story. Adam was left the farm and shortly after Christian died, Adam and Sarah Yockey Bates moved to Perrysburg, Ohio. I've browsed through those Bowling Green CAC Manuscript collections a few times, trying to find any mention of my 3 Civil War brothers of the ELDER family, or their father John ELDER, assessor and coronor in Wood Co. from 1840-60, but so far nothing seems to be indexed for them. On the same page are some tidbits that might have something related, because Josiah Elder's Civil War pension has an affidavit from a Capt. Morgan. Posted here: http://www.teleport.com/~nancyp/elder/CaptMorgan.htm Capt. Morgan says there: "My Post Office address is Webb Summit, County of Hocking, State of Ohio, S.D. Morgan (officer's Signature) Late a "Capt, Co. "E" 179th Reg't Ohio Inft Vols." Also Josiah's brother Joseph ELDER enlisted in the 21st OHI: Co C Aug 1861 His brother Martin Elder enlisted in "Piatt's Zouaves" 1 Aug 1861 age 20, E. Co. 34th OH d. Fayetteville, WV, 25 APR 1862 Here's a Manuscript number for a MORGAN family that could be related to Capt. Morgan. Does anyone know anything about these folks? Family collection of correspondence, papers, and photographs of Hill, Morgan, Overmyer, and Graf families of Wood County, Ohio, including Civil War correspondence and papers of Guy Morgan, who served with Co. K, 21st O.V.I. Also I've wondered if ELDER folks could have been married or buried by the Methodist preachers: such as in these journals: Journals, 1817-1882. Dear Nancy and Barb, Thank you so much for the information on Jennie Eberly. I found it quite interesting. You might like to know that Gorrell [Gorrill] Street is the street to the East of Eberly. I never realized there was a connection between the two streets/people. Thanks again, Beverly Miner Life member # 77
