I am searching for records of my great-grandfather's family from Milton Township, Wood County, Ohio from the mid- 1860's to around 1915. Here is what I know: Jacob Schuster b. 1851 in Baden, Germnay (Prussia) Immigrated to U.S. in 1863. Lucia Muir Schuster b. 1858 in Germany (Prussia) Immigrated to U.S. in 1868. Listed in 1880 census as a laborer with their one-month old son Phillip (6-1-1880)in Wood County, OH. Mrs. Schuster bore 12 children (10 survived until 1900) between 1880 and 1900. Listed in the 1900 census as a farmer with 9 of their children living at home (still in Wood County, OH). A thirteenth birth occured after the 1900 census. The census shows that the Schusters were married 15 July 1879. The children's names: Phillip - May 1880 Antoine - Jan 1882 Peter - Sep 1883 Frederick - Mar 1885 Mary Mae - July 1887 John Jacob - Feb 1889 - My paternal Grandfather Died: 1946 Anderson County, KS. Frances Katherine - Apr 1891 Henry Gregory - Nov 1892 Died July 1983 - Spokane County, WA (SSDI) Michael - Not reported in 1900 census Gertrude - Not reported in 1900 census Lucy - Jan 1895 married Curtis Trout died 1991 Lucas County, Ohio (SSDI) Joseph - Jun 1897 Clara - after 1900 census I am searching for any records of birth, death, burial, marriage, immigration or ownership for these folks. Surely some of these fifteen people named here left a trail in Wood County, Ohio. Searching for information on Henry Roux listed as living in Risingsun, OH as of 1957 in his brother, James Emile's obit. in Fort Wayne, IN. James was born in 1878. His cousin, Charles was born in Alsace in 1871. Charles' father, George Frederick Roux settled in Fort Wayne in 1874 and would have been Henry and James' Uncle. Charles was supposed to have arrived in 1878 in the States as well and probably came over with Julie who was supposed to be a sister to George Frederick. I'm trying to find anything I can on the other family members to try and pinpoint where they came from in France. Julie may have been the mother to Henry and James Emile. Terry Spear of Texas
Hi Robert I looked through our various indexes for the JAY surname. The census index covers from 1820 through 1910. There is only one JAY in this one hundred years in Wood County censuses. That was a William JAY in 1910 in Washington Twp. I also looked through our index of tombstone readings in the county, our obituary index, our death records, and the Historical and Biographical Record of Wood County published in 1897. I do not see the names you are searching for anywhere. There were very few of this surname at all in the county. Sorry I could not be of more help for you. Hi Donna - I searched our various indexes as follows: Readings of tombstones in Wood COunty for burial, obituaries indexes, Census indexes from 1820 through 1910, Deaths record in Wood County Probate Court from 1867, and the Historical and Biographical Record of Wood County Published in 1897. I see no Troswell.. I also looked for Troxell, Toxwell, Trowell, Troxel, Trouwell, and other similar spellings. I found nothing on George. Hi - will someone please tell me how I can contact whoever submitted the Emanual, Peter, Elizabeth Zeigler family to the First Families of Wood Co? Or is that on line somewhere? Or submitted to the WCOG? I'll be glad to pay for a copy and the time involved....I think this is the family I'm looking for. Thanks for you time. I appreciate your efforts. I tried the email address and it bounced. Sue
Hello Ron: My name is Jim Eubank, and I just wanted to tell you that in the near future I will be getting back to you on some research. My main research is in the surname EUBANK (Fathers side) my other is from my Mothers side - GOODMAN; she was born and raised in Wood Co. Ohio What drew my attention was the surname CROM + Wood Co. I went to your web page and looked at a few of the different links, but the one that fascinated me the most was the link to web page: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~bauerle/crom/crom.txt It seems that your Rev John CROM is connected to both of my parents lines. On my Eubank line it goes from Rev William Lincoln CROM up to your John CROM Spouse: Julia MATHEWS Children: Jay Leroy (1894-1967) Elda Bell (1900-) Other Spouses Clara Levanda EUBANK and from my GOODMAN line you have several references mainly from Charles Louis Rochte then son Lucian Sebastian Rochte Sr. (1C62) b. /1881? d. Ron, I was excited when I looked at your website and saw the photo of Rev. Crom and his wife. Trinity United Methodist (formerly United Brethren) Church, Bowling Green, recently celebrated its 125th anniversary by publishing a history. Rev. Crom is listed in it as an itinerant preacher until 1874. There is a descendant of his still attending Trinity. I would like your permission to copy the photograph to be placed in our archives. I can give you a name of a person from Tontogany who may be his descendant. My husband graduated from high school with him. Hi Ila - I have checked our index of obituaries, our tombstone readings of all the cemeteries in Wood County. Census indexes from 1820 through 1910 and index of deaths from 1908 through 1988. from the Wood County Health Department. I see no Sarah Elizabeth Delephan in any of these indexes. I also checked for spelling as Delaplane and Deleplane Delaphan also with negative results. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ila LaRue" <ilarue@midohio.net> To: <OHWOOD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, June 02, 2001 8:12 PM Subject: QExpress for Wood co., Ohio ( BROWN DELEPHAN ) > > Surnames: BROWN DELEPHAN > Submitter: Ila LaRue (ilarue@midohio.net) > Date: 02 Jun 2001 > > Would like to know the burial place for Sarah Elizabeth Delephan, who died 2 April 1916 at North Baltimore, Wood Co., Ohio. It is correct, there is no Ohio Census for 1890. It was destroyed by fire in 1921 as were many others in the United States. Fellow Listers, I'm almost afraid to mention this, BUT all heads of household are indexed in 1920 thru the Soundex system which begins with the first letter of the SURNAME followed by the appropriate numbers: 1 B P F V 2 C S K G J Q X Z 3 D T 4 L 5 M N 6 R Disregard the letters A, E, I, O, U, W, Y, H and a second double letter. If there is not enough letters by the above method, add Zero For instance: ADAMS would be: A- 352 LUSHER would be: L-260 RHOADS/RHODES would be: R-320 MILLER would be: M-460 While this is not exclusively Wood County OH, if you know the Soundex Code, you know which OH Soundex Reel to look on for your ancestor. The heads of household are listed; if someone by a different surname is listed in a household, they are usually Soundexed on a different card, i.e., in PA 1910, Alice BAXENDALE is listed on a card by herself in the household of Adolf BRAUN. The relationship is brother-in-law. This does not always hold true. In the same year my RHOADS father and his sister should have been listed on a card in St. Joseph County IN with relationship to POORE as stepfather. This was not shown. Bottom line: I'm a volunteer [one night a week -- twice a month] at the Northeast Region of the National Archives [located in Waltham, Mass]. I'll be glad to do a look up but please don't swamp me. Being a volunteer means helping all those who walk through the front door. Believe me, there are a great number. If you are patient, I'll get your answer. BTW, do you know where your relatives lived in 1930? IF you have an exact address [withWard/Precinct], this will be of help when the 1930 Census is available to the public on April 1, 2002. WWII happened and the Soundexing was curtailed as those WPA workers were needed on the line producing defense weapons. April 2002 isn't that far off. Dusti Dusti
