    1. [OHWOOD] Re: OHWOOD-D Digest V00 #181
    2. Oh my goodness, Gene, I hit paydirt!!!! This is MY Thomas Smith!!! Bertie was the twin of Albert, and Bertie died as an infant. Rebecca Smith is Thomas Hiram Smiths' mother! All I had previously was from the LDS, which listed Thomas parents as "Charles Smith and Rebecca____?" Also, I have listed as a son of TH & SA a son, Chester Corwin Smith, b June 21, 1876, the same date as Clifford C. Smith. Could have been a twin, as I know that Chester Corwin Smith moved out to Montana, married and had a family. Or else he changed his name somewhat, but not the initials! Death for Sarah A. Smith from LDS says "bet 1900-1906 OH". Now for the confusing information..... I had requested the land entry files for Thomas H. Smith, veteran of the 3rd OH Cavalry, homesteading in South Dakota (where his daughter and husband-- my gg grandparents-- were also homesteading. According to this file, in 1892, Thomas states that he is a widower living with one son. BUT, the online image of the Civil War pension file for Thomas H. Smith, 3rd OH Cavalry, states that his widow, Sarah A. Smith, filed for pension benefits in 1893. I have the regiment roster for the OH 3rd Cav, and there is only one Thomas H. Smith. Could he have remarried, to another Sarah A.?? I doubt it. So you see, I am totally confused. I would love photocopies of any records you might have, and I would gladly make a donation to the WCOGS to cover your time and effort. To tell you the truth, I never thought I would find Thomas. I have been waiting 5 months for his military pension file from NARA. Thank you so very, very much. I am absolutely thrilled! Regards- Mary Tiernan Fenton MI

    3. Hi Mary Tiernan- Re: Smith and Webb - The Wood County Chapter OGS indexes of burials shows a T. H. Smith buried in Troy Township Cemetery with no birth or death date. It is a Civil War Veteran stone that shows he was a member of Co. C. 3rd Ohio Vol. Cavalry. These Civil War stones usually do not show any dates. Next to the burial site of T. H. Smith is a stone with Bertie, son of TH and SA Smith, died 25 Sep 1874, age 2 months 20 days. As your Bertie and Albert Smith were born on 5 July 1874, this could be your T.H. Smith and son Bertie. There is no Sarah buried with them. There are a total of eight Sarah Smith's buried in Wood County Cemeteries, none with a Thomas Smith. If fact, there is a Rebecca Smith wife of B. Smith buried with T. H. Smith and Bertie. Our Vol. II of Wood County's Role in the Civil War shows a Thomas Smith deceased 29 March 1892. These records were developed from the Wood County Recorders Office of Civil War Veterans Records. There were a number of Thomas Smith, so it is very difficult to determine if this is your Thomas SMITH or even the T. H. Smith. Our Vol. I of Index of birth records does show the following: Thomas F. Smith born 28 Dec 1869, Mildred Smith born 23 Dec 1871, Albert nd Bertie Smith born 5 July 1874, and Clifton C. Smith born 21 Jan 1876 all in Troy Township and all to Thomas H. and Sarah Webb. The only death record I see of a Sarah Smith is in 1908 in Liberty Township, Wood County. If any of this information is of value to you, please advise further. 3. Hi Sharon - The obituary index at the CAC at the University of Bowling Green does not show any Welder. Our index of burials in Wood County shows a Gevene Welder buried at Fort Meigs Cemetery in Perrysburg. We show none at Grand Rapids Cemetery or any cemetery in the area. Hi Maggie - Yes, there are some school pictures of some of the old schools in Wood County. As stated to Jacque, there are not many. They are photos that some people over the years have given to us or mostly given us copies with a little history. Some have the names of the students identified. Some do not. As there were many schools in each township at the turn of the century, it is not easy to find someone, but we will try if they are identified. North Baltimore is in Henry Township and was not densely populated and should not be difficult. Bowling Green was entirely different but I will take a look. I will be in Bowling Green next week and will see what I can find and get back to you later. 3. Hello Dawnette, I believe we've already been in contact regarding John L. HOLLOPETER (b. 17 Jun 1878 - d. 11 Mar 1956) who married Flora May KARCHNER on 29 Apr 1902. Either I never heard back from you or someone's mail server decided to eat one of our emails. I have taken a look at your list of descendent of Matthias HOLLOPETER and have found John L., although Flora's last name is misspelled as KAREHER. I also have additional info on their children. I know the KARCHNERs lived in Wood Co. for a time, although it would appear most of them eventually went to Toledo and points beyond. There are several HOLLOPETERs listed in the 1897 Historical & Biographical Record of Wood County, but John L. is not one of them. The ones that appear there: Andrew, Rev. Andrew, C.M., Charles, F.W., M., and "Mr.". There are references to them on six different pages and if you will contact me, I can transcribe them for you. (My copy of The Book is a bit too fragile to put on a copier.) Regards, Vicky Farmer At 04:00 AM 10/20/00 -0700, Dawnette Thompson wrote: >Am new to the list. 3. 3. Hi Odie - The Wood Chapter of OGS has indexes of all the cemeteries in Wood County including Henry Township where North Baltimore is located. These indexes are from readings of the various tombstones in the cemeteries. We also have a listing of many obituaries through the Bowling Green State University. If you will provide some names, we will look through these indexes to see if we have any of them listed. 3. Hi Jacque - As I said there are some photos and some information on the schools in the county. Bays School has a couple of copies of photos of some classes that have the individuals listed. There is a class of 5th and 6th grade in 1915-1916, one of 1919-1920 with no grade shown and one with the year not identified. The individuals that are named do not include any Martindale. There is very little on the school other than the photos. 1. Re: [OHWOOD] HOLLOPETER--Bloom Twp.
    2. Dawnette, I am not researching Hollopeter, but in the probate death record of Wood co. for 1901-1908 is an Olive Hollepeter died 30 October 1906, single, 2 years,4 months and 27 days in Montgomery Twp. The only one I see. pat

    3. Would anyone happen to have a death listing for North Baltimore Wood Co., Ohio, or death listings for Wood County alone for 1910 to 1930? Please e-mail me. Thank-You! Sharon
