Would like to connect with descendants of Mathew Brewer born ca. 1786 NJ. Settled in Congress Twp., Wayne Co. by 1820. Mathew/parents/siblings migrated from NJ early 1800s to Bedford/Fulton Co PA (maybe just across the line in MD). Remained there for a brief period then family moved to Greene Co., PA. Some of the family remained in Greene Co. and some continued on to OH. The stop in Bedford was where Charity Brewer and John Lake had settled after migrating from NJ by 1800. Any info/help appreciated. Thanks. Don

I am trying to find the location of Bourbon, Ohio - Does anyone have access to an old Ohio Gazetteer - one that was published in the 1800's - or an old Postal Guide would also list places that were no longer in existence - or possibly had a name change. Some libraries also have a book titled "American Place Names of Long Ago" author, Gilbert Bahn and published by Crams Atlas. Thanks for any help you can give Marge Kientz Oak Ridge, Tennessee

The IGI has a Charles KRUG who married Caroline Waylan in 1875 in Wayne County OH. In 1877 they had a daughter Esther born in Wayne County. Who were the parents of Charles Krug? Did he and Caroline have other children? The earlier generations of this family were Mennonite and I am preparing a manuscript on the family to hopefully be published later this year. Thanking everyone in advance, Norman Peters Washington DC

MONDAY, APRIL 16, 2001, 7:30 p.m. JEWISH GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY at the Jewish Community Center, 5738 Darlington Road, Squirrel Hill, Pittsburgh, PA. Free and open to the public. "Walking Aroung the Neighborhood with the Census Taker: Why did he always miss my ancestor?" will be presented by Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS. The Federal Census is a wonderful and basic tool for genealogists, after vital records, but finding the ancestor can be a challenge. This lecture shows what type of information is on each census and gives the tools for gaining access to the information. Techniques, aside from indices, will also be shown to help the researcher through some of the pitfalls of the records. Internet sources and resources will be discussed. The 1930 census (due for public release on 1 April 2002) will also be discussed. _________________________________ TUESDAY, APRIL 17, 2001, 7 p.m. NORTH HILLS GENEALOGISTS will hold its regular third-Tuesday meeting at the Northland Public Library, 300 Cumberland Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237 (McCandless Township) The meeting is free and open to the public. We regret that we have no way to distribute information from this meeting if you are unable to attend. Finding The Place of Origin of Your Irish and Scotch-Irish Ancestor will be presented by Dr. James H. Sterrett The chance of success in tracing ones Scotch-Irish ancestor in Ireland is in direct relationship to how specifically one can identify where he or she originated there. Because research in Irish records will probably be of little success otherwise, this place of origin is something you must know before you go. This talk presents several ways to find where that immigrant ancestor called home. While the talk will focus on a specific group, the sources and techniques explained here will be useful for family research of many ethnic immigrant groups. Dr. Sterrett, retired Professor of History at Geneva College, is also a former editor and continuing contributor to the WPGS Quarterly, now operating from his home in Brockway. Jims special interest is Irish and Scotch-Irish research, about which he has spoken at local genealogical and historical societies as well as the 1995 FGS Conference. __________________________________ APRIL 26 to 29, 2001 OHIO GENEALOGICAL SOCIETY will have its annual conference at the Hilton Hotel Akron / Fairlawn, OH on April 26 through 29 with Friday and Saturday each having as many as 5 lectures per hour to choose from. Topics such as Computers and Software, How to Begin, Federal resources, Health History, Military Records, Austro-Hungarian Empire, Church Records, British Isles Research, German Research, Criminal Records, Probate, Irish Records, African-American Research, West Virginia Research, and Maps will be presented, just to name a few. Many vendors representing genealogical book and CD companies, as well as Ohio Counties will be there. Also for the first time, the Board for Certification of Genealogists will also be present to answer your questions about the certification process and offer guides for sale for those interested in more information. The vendor area is usually in a publicly accessible space, so browsing the tables is easy and fun. Please see www.ogs.org for the exact schedule and more information on how to register. _______________________ MONDAY, MAY 21, 2001, 7:30 p.m. Mahoning County Chapter, Ohio Genealogical Society in Austintown, OH will have Elissa Scalise Powell, CGRS present "Sailing Into the Sunset: Tips on Finding Your Ancestor's Passenger List." After noticing a post by "Betty", for the surname McINTIRE on the Wayne Co. site last night, my reply bounced, much to my disappointment! If Betty is a member, or if anyone on the list happens to know how I can get in touch with her, I would be most appreciative. Her (now inactive) address was bkleslie@gateway.net. Seeking information on the Culver family. Aaron Culver brought his family from Pennsylvania to Stark Co., Ohio. In the 1810s he moved his family to Wayne County. He made several land purchases in Franklin and Sugar Creek twps. Wayne Co (in 1810, 1815 and 1819). In the 1820 he married Susannah who's last name was only given as Culver. This would have been a second marriage. Sons David Culver married Hannah Sanderson in 1821 and Truman Culver married a Luci Nigh in 1822. In about 1829 Aaron again moved, this time to Medina County. Aaron settled in Norton twp., Medina Co. David and Truman Culver, who I believe are his sons, settled in Sharon twp. Nathanial Culver remained in Stark Co. Would like to correspond with anyone with info on this family. Mindy Shadle mshadle@prodigy.net
Is anyone else looking for GROGERS? My Freelove GROGER Nye Stanton was in Chippewa Twp and I have found that a Julius Richard NYE married Corintha GROGER in Ohio. All of this c 1820-1840. Thanks for any help. Donna California (with the lights on)
Hi, do any of those searching the YODER or DAGUE names have information about this YODER/DAGUE family? Christian YODER, born c 1814 ? PA married 12/22/1836 (by Rev John Wallace) to Rachel DAGUE (c 1804 ? - ). They may have lived in Salisbury, Lancaster Co, Pa. at the time of their marriage. Their second child, Andrew, was born there in 1841. By the time of the 1850 census, they lived in Chester Co., PA. The dates of birth are probably off, because those dates indicate that Rachel was about ten years older than Christian. Also, do any YODER researchers have information about the family of John YODER who was an early preacher in the Black River Brethren Church, Medina Co., OH? I think that Black River Brethren was probably founded 1855. Cathy Martin ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Good Morning, The message below did not make the Wayne Co. list. At least, it did not arrive in my mailbox. If it did make it to the list and was somehow lost when it was sent to my mailbox, I apologize for the intrusion of a repeat message. Hi, Recently, I extended the invitation below regarding the new Deeg / Dague list. Then, I learned that Susanna DAGUE'S husband was John LOCKER. In my original post, I stated that his name was J. Logner. Below is the corrected post. Hi, I am writing to extend an invitation to the descendants of John LOCKER and Susanna DAGUE to join us our new DAGUE/DEEG Rootsweb list. The name of the list reflects our surname in Germany -- DEEG. To subscribe to the new DAGUE / DEEG list, send an e-mail to: DEEG-L-request@rootsweb.com Leave the e-mail blank, except for typing "subscribe" (without the parentheses) in the body of the message. We are looking forward to meeting you and finding our family connections. Cathy Martin ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
