I can attest to the Wayne County Public Library Genealogy Department's obituary service. They are prompt and charge only 20 cents per page for copies of obituaries listed on their site. WONDERFUL service. I got quite a few copies that provided names, dates, places that I couldn't have found otherwise. Lynn
According to their web site, it sounds like the Wayne County Public Library Genealogy Department might provide this service to you. However, I have never tried sending in a request, so I cannot say for certain what kind of information they can and cannot look up for researchers. The following information is from their web site: Wayne County Library Mail/E-Mail Queries "MAIL/E-MAIL QUERIES Please be as specific as possible when seeking information. Please limit your questions to three per letter or e-mail query. Extensive research cannot be done by staff members, but a list of researchers for hire can be made available on request. We charge $0.20 per page for each copy plus postage. There is no charge for e-mail queries unless you request copies to be mailed to you. At times, our volume of requests is quite heavy. We do answer queries in the order they are received and by the level of difficulty. Please be patient. If you have not heard from us within a month, please feel free to check on our progress. Thank you for your understanding. "

Thanks to everyone who replied to my inquiry about how families named their children. I had no idea that the same first name might be given to multiple children in the family with their middle names then becoming the names by which they were known. As in my family's case, many times only the middle names were used on legal papers. Thanks again! Ellen
Looking for info on any members of the SHEPP family in the period of 1800 to 1890. Home Is Where You Hang Your Heart.....

I have discovered my great grandparents marriage date. Is there anyone in Wayne Co. that could look up this record and see what information it shows (perhaps parents names!! ) ? This has been a real brick wall !! Thanks for any help!! Jacob Hout & Lucinda Keefer Marriage June 4, 1874 Wayne County, Ohio
My Samuel Graber family came from Switzerland in the early to middle1800's. They settled in Wayne and Holmes County of Ohio. In trying to trace this family, I have discovered that some children were named the same first names but were "called" by their middle name. For instance, My great, great grandfather, John Jacob Graber, was called Jacob. He had brothers named John Peter Graber and John Fredrick Graber. This carried down into subsequent generations. Is anyone familiar with Swiss naming conventions that might help me as I track this family? The Samuel Graber will lists the names in this order: John Peter Graber Mary Brugger David Graber Rosina Sallenger Susanna Simon Jacob Graber (his first name is John) Elizabeth Bohrer Mary Ann Van Gunter Heirs of Christian Graber Heirs of John Fredrick Graber Heirs of Samuel Graber, Jr. Thank you for any help or suggestions you might have. Hi Wayne County Ohio List, I'm searching for information on Jacob HARTEL, born in Germany about 1832 and arrived in Wayne County Ohio with his parents (???) about 1838, according to family stories, then married Barbara LEFEVRE about 30 Oct 1856 in Ohio, and then sometime after 1860 left for Christian County Illinois. I have some information on him and his family in Christian County Illinois. Thanks for any help you might have that will help me find out about his life in Ohio and who his parents were. Gary K. Andrew HOOVER was born in Germany March 1847. He came to America and married a woman named May (born NY), and he received his citizenship around 1868 in Wayne Co. Ohio. By 1880 he moved to (Allegheny City) Pittsburgh, PA. He was in Pittsburgh in the 1910 census, lost track of him after that. Might there be a connection with the other HOOVERS I have seen mentioned on this list? Willing to share what info I have. Kelly Hoover
Susie, those could very well be Hoovers who married into our family. Hoover-Swagler is a small cemetery and it is where my family is buried. Unfortunately, I moved recently and don't have that information available. Perhaps one of our cousins who subscribes to this list can access that info. Since someone brought up the Hoover name.....I am doing a webpage on Company H of the 120th in the Civil War. This was one of the Wayne County companies. I'm trying to tell a little about each soldier beyond what is in the Roster. I have a Lewis and a Samuel E. who were both privates. I found two men by those names buried at Hoover-Swagler Cemetery but haven't yet visited the graves. Does anyone out there have any information on these two Hoovers? I don't want genealogies beyond their parents/siblings, and wife/children that they had after the war. Thanks, Susie
Good Morning, Pete, Your John's Hoover's Maryland connection could be a link to our family. By any chance was John Hoover Brethren (German Baptist Brethren)? They were like the Mennonites and Amish in many ways. Some of the Hoovers were Brethren. In about the 1740s, some of my Brethren family (on the same side that married Hoovers) moved from the area around Philadelphia to Frederick Co., MD where a Brethren community was being established. Many of their children's and grandchildren's families moved to Washington Co. PA around the 1770s. A couple of generations later (around 1819 or 1820), many families in this line of our family moved to Wayne Co., Ohio. Besides "Dague" one of the surnames in this family was "Swinehart" (Schweinhardt, Swihart). One of our Swinehart cousins wrote a book entitled, _Bower, Easterday, Hoover and Swinehart_. I could get you in touch with her if you'd like. Cathy ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! I would like to correspond with someone who knows this HOOVER family: John Hoover died May 23, 1842 in Wayne County. Sons were John, Joseph, and Jacob. Pete Apple.
When Phil's power mower broke down, his wife Kristi kept dropping hints about getting it fixed before the grass got too tall, but the message wasn't sinking in, and Phil kept putting off the repairs. Finally, she thought of a clever way to make her point. When Phil arrived at home one day, he found her sitting in the grass, clipping it by hand with a tiny pair of sewing scissors. He watched silently for a few minutes, then went into the house. Coming back in a few minutes, he handed her a toothbrush. "When you finish cutting the grass, you might as well sweep the sidewalks >>
Sorry, This is a repeat...discovered I had been unsubscribed so didn't see any answers. Is there any birth record in Wayne County for the subject who was born between 1825 and 1840, Wayne County, in township of Plain or Yankeetown. Joe H

Wow! You guys are wonderful! I will pursue this Rees Davis information as suggested. The only info I have regarding my Rees Davis is his name and his presence in Fayette County, Pennsylvania on the 1800 Federal Census, so anything the probate court has for him will be more than what I currently possess. My sincere thanks to Beverly, Cheryl, and Bob. Mary Anna Fox ----------------------------------------------------- Click here for Free Video!! http://www.gohip.com/free_video/
