New to list. Researching ancestor family of Robert Nichols who moved from Maine to Ohio just before 1830. His family apparently lived in Wayne county in 1830, and Allen county in 1840. In 1837; his children contracted Typhus according to the family history. 5 or 6 children died in 1837 over a short time due to fever from Typhus. The story says; John Nichols (a young boy) had Typhus and his siblings had all died. An "elderly couple" came to care for John so that his parents could rest. The Dr. instructed them not to give John any water to drink. He told the couple that he expected John to die by midnight and that he would be back then to pronounce him dead. John cried and cried for water and suffered terribly from the fever. The couple talked and agreed that if John in fact was going to die then what could a little water hurt anyway. So, they brought him water and he had as much as he wanted. By midnight, the Dr. arrived to find John doing much better. The elderly couple chastized the Dr. for failing to allow the children with Typhus to have water and they believed that if the other children had been given water that they would have lived. John fully recovered. Does anyone have any info on an epidemic of Typhus in Wayne county in 1837? Anybody know who the local Dr. might have been? Sheri LeQuia 1227 Panorama Pt. Dear researchers, Just read Derek Dingledine's appeal for some cemetery lookups. If anyone should choose to do this, it would be appreciated if they would also see if there is a record of the burial site of my pggrandmother, Mary Ann Brown Campbell who deceased 29 April 1846, most likely in Chippewa Twp. Have been looking for her for at least five years. Thank you. Alan Campbell (Iowa) ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
