    1. [OHWAYNE] Did this make the list? Hereditary Blood Disorder
    2. Hi Everyone, My message below didn't arrive in my inbox. Would someone please tell me if it made the list? Thank you so much. Cathy Hi Everyone, My ancestors were early pioneers of Wayne, Stark, Lorain and Medina Counties, so we are related to many folks from those and surrounding counties -- many of whose names I don't know, because maternal names are often lost in families. I am writing to ask if any of you know of a hereditary blood disorder in your family called Hereditary Sphereocytosis. My hematologist said that 50% of my relatives probably have this disorder because it is autosomal dominant. Sometimes this disease can be silent, as it had been in my family until my mother's cousin died of it (probably of a ruptured spleen) and her son and I were diagnosed with it and had spleenectomies. Sometimes Hereditary Sphererocytosis is so subtle, it can't be seen on a regular red-blood count smear. Apparently a regular RBC smear doesn't pick it up in our in our family, but a hematologist will know what to do to be sure. My hematologist said that he recently had a patient in his seventies who had no idea that he had this blood disorder until tests picked it up. Because even those who have the more serious form of the disease can have subtle symptoms, it can be dangerous if someone has it and doesn't know it. Hereditary Sphereocytosis is characterized by small, fragile, sphere-shaped red corpuscles and most people afflicted with it are of northwestern European descent. Sometimes anemia and jaundice are obvious with this disease, but sometimes, those symptoms are subtle, even in those who have the more serious form of the disease. This has been the case in our family. I would be grateful to hear from anyone who might have this disease in their families. One reason is that my hematologist has found some mysteries associated with my form of Hereditary Sphererocytosis that I would like to compare with others who may have some of the same difficulties. Another is this could be a great way to find cousins who have so far been lost because maternal names change and we lose track of family lines. This is a relatively rare disease, so it may be a good first step in finding cousins. My family was originally from Pennsylvania before they pioneered Ohio. 1. Re: [OHWAYNE] 1850 Census for Wayne Co: missing pg. 449
    2. Ron and all, It certainly will be interesting to see the new digitized censuses on CD-ROM from Heritage Quest. They are also redoing all the indexes. So perhaps they will catch this (if it is fixable). I know they have found several thousand people that were previously not in census indices before. I think Family Tree Maker is also digitizing the census, but not redoing the indices. And I have seen several "mom and pop" ads saying they will take any roll of microfilm and put it on a CD-ROM for you. That's because there are somewhat affordable machines that do that now. Thing is in both these latter cases they are not using the National Archives Master copies to digitize as Heritage Quest is doing. So just beware there could be differences in quality. At least that is my understanding of our current census "industry." Bob Strock, I noticed that you have such an informative thing as a burial book for Wayne County and was wondering if anywhere there you can locate Henry Joseph Ventury/Venturi he was born in Wayne County 9/l/1883 to Ranieri and Elizabeth DeLoye (DeLawyer) Ventury/ Venturi. He is not with his family when they came to Pittsburgh so I can only assume he died as a child. Thanks Kay Santa

    3. Hi Elissa, Your question about hand-written-vs-printed page numbers is a good one, and I thought of that myself as I was reading through the two microfilms (M432, rolls 739 and 740) that contained these Schedules at Seattle's NARA facility. The key was the printed 1850 OHIO Census Index's note that this Jacob METZ lived in Wooster. I didn't write it down but I believe the hand-written page numbers around page 440 were, indeed, for Wooster whereas the printed page numbers around 440 were for another part of Wayne County (again, I didn't write that down.) It could very well be that these missing pages were misplaced and are somewhere else on the microfilm. I didn't think of that and didn't look, but another key note from the printed Index was the asterisk after Jacob METZ's name indicating that the page for this entry was lost. My interpretation of that note was that these pages were lost a long time ago, before the microfilms were made. 2. I am curious about the comment about the missing pages in the 1850 census. Are they really missing? Are they microfilmed out of sequence? or could it be that the printed page number and the hand-written page number are being confused? One of those is used for the index and I forget off-hand which one. But I know when I don't find what I am looking for on the printed page number to look up the hand-written page number as well. 3. Last year, my wife and I visited East Union Cemetery to visit the graves of her ancestors. They include Andrew Milbourn and his wife, Matilda Mowrer. Also their family members who are buried there. We knew these two were buried there before we arrived. We were surprised to find Matilda's parents, Henry Mowrer and his wife Catherine Dampman. Unfortunately, we found the gravestones impossible to read any of the details for these two (other than their names). Does anyone know if the county has a genealogical or historical society that keeps cemetery lists? We would like to know whether such a list for East Union might have recorded any dates from the gravestones. Any info would be helpful. Win Cope

These are the people whose names appear on the same line as the dwelling and household number (it looks like in almost all cases they might be the "head of household", although this Census doesn't designate a head of household). 1. [OHWAYNE] 1870 Census East Union Township
    2. Nancy Regan
    3. I have transcribed this township and would be glad to send fellow list members the information on any household listed here. These are the people whose names appear on the same line as the dwelling and household number (it looks like in almost all cases they might be the "head of household", although this Census doesn't designate a head of household). This transcription has not been proofread. I may have made reading errors or typing errors; please use these as clues to your own research. I would really enjoy getting any corrections you have. Happy hunting!
