I am hoping that someone can help me with my latest BRICK WALL. I have always believed that the Elizabeth Carey that married my William Mankin(s) last name was correct until now. I am wondering if her maiden name was really CASEY or CAZY. The reason why is this: 1. William's history of Wash. Co. Ohio states on page 650 that her name was CAREY. However, we all know that the book, has had it's share of mistakes. 2. In a Bible owned by Betsy Ellenwood Mankins, she wrote that Elizabeth's last name is "CAZY" under BIRTHS and DEATHS. It was written this way, in 2-3 places in the Bible. (Betsy ELLENWOOD was the w/o John and the 1st child born to William and Elizabeth Mankin(s). 3. The Marietta Register; Thursday, February 18, 1875; Page 3; Col. 1 Mrs. Betsy Mankins died February 13th, aged 90 years. She was one of the oldest citizens in Dunham township, and a sister to the widow Calder, who is 77 yrs. old this spring. Col. 3 (Under the DEATHS section): MANKINS in Dunham, Feb. 12th. Mrs. Henry (could be Harvey) Mankins, aged 90 years. (I am wondering if William's middle name could of been Henry or Harvey) (Catherine Sams from the Wash. Co. Genealogy Library helped me find this on microfilm this past summer) Robert Henderson found in the Wash.Co. Probate court death records: Elizabeth Mankins, 12 Feb. 1875, aged 92, Born VA, died in Dunham Twp. (I don't think there was mention of her maiden name) 4. After finding the above death notice on Elizabeth (Betsy) I started doing research on the "Widow CALDER that would of been aged 77 the spring of 1875, and found in Williams History of Wash. Co., on the same page (640), an Alexander CALDER who married a CeCe CASEY, that was born in Fairfax Co., Va in 1800. That would be Elizabeth's younger sister. Elizabeth was also born in Virginia. I think, but I am not 100% sure it was in Fairfax Co. She and William Mankins married about the year of 1810/11 in Richmond Va. 5. In the 1870 Census for Dunham Twp. there is William and Harriet Mankins, with Elizabeth, age 86 living with them. Right next door is Wallace Colder (CALDER), and Cece Colder (CALDER) , age 72. Wallace is the son of Alexander and CeCe Calder. I am wondering HOW in the world, I can find out which was her real maiden name: Carey, Casey, or Cazy........DUH!!! HELP!!!!
