A number of families - including the Kingsbury Covey and Isaac Johnson families - came to Washington County before 1820 from Cayuga County, NY. Does anyone have a journal, family history, Bible, or an article that identifies which route persons took from the Finger Lakes area of NY to Marietta? Rufus Putnam and the first Marietta settlers from MA and RI took the old road across southern PA to Pittsburg and then came down the Ohio River. Persons from CT who were going to Ohio's Western Reserve used lakes and rivers to get to Buffalo, NY. They eventually followed the shoreline of Lake Erie to get to northern OH and Cleveland. Did the families coming from the Finger Lakes area of NY to Washington County use one of these routes or a different one? Millie Covey Fry
