I don't know anything about the Smith ancestors, but the people I believe were Dr. Smith's parents married in Jefferson County, Ohio. I don't know when Dr. Smith, Sr., began to practice medicine in Marietta; he gained a license to practice through Ohio's Long Practice Act rather than graduation from an approved medical school. I have a bunch of Smith ancestors from Brooke Co. WVA, which is just east of Jefferson Co. OH in the northern tip of WVA betw. Ohio & PA. Who do you think is Charles Sr's father? We have a Robert James Smith who was b. c1822 in Brooke Co. WVA, he married Emma Adelia Jones, they had children: Flora, *Charles, Roberta, Catherine, Mary, Della and William. What interested me was that Robert James Smith's father was Edward (Dr. Eddie) Smith a medical doctor. I'm waiting to hear back from another Smith researcher.
