I am doing research for my Mom on the Sprague family from Coal Run, Washington County, OH. Specifically I am looking for any information about Frederick Sprague, the son of Nehemiah Sprague and grandson of Joshua Sprague. I believe he was born in Washington County in 1803 and was married to Areneth (Zenia) Starling who was also born in Washington County in 1803. According to the 1850 Census they had five children, Jeremiah (21), William (16), Charles (15), Maria (11), and Mary (9). Charles, This is my Sprague line. I am directly related through Samuel Sprague, son of Major Joshua Sprague and Abigail Wilbur. Your Nehemiah was brother to my Samuel. I have a great deal on this family. Also on GenCircles and other sites, there may be Sprague histories that may pertain more directly to your branch from Frederick on down. I will send you some things from this family and also GenCircles, which has MATCHES of this family to be found at the bottom of the page. There will be many of them for you to search through in order to find your Frederic Sprague. There is also the Sprague database by Dick Weber you can search. I have the Sprague history done by Warren Vincent Sprague done in 1913 and will send that also. It does take time to go through, but you should find all your Spragues back to 1500's in Upwey, Puddletown, Dorsetshire, England. Our line is through William Sprague that came to Salem, Mass. in 1629 with his two brothers Ralph and Richard. I do have one picture of Henry Sprague, which would have been a nephew of your Nehemiah Sprague. Hi: I also descend from Edward in Upwey, Dorset. Went to visit the Fordington St. George church and St. Laurence in Upway a few years ago. Wonderful place. Unfortunately the lineage to Tristram Sprague is poorly documented and probably untrue. I descend from Edward to William to Jonathan to William to Major. Joshua to Elijah to his eldest daughter by Anna ???. That daughter was named ZERVIAH SPRAGUE (Elija had a first wife who died a few days after giving birth to their daughter, named after the mother--Avis Mitchel/Mitshal. Avis the daughter, lived in Adams, Berkshire County in 1803.married a man named John Huit (Hewit?) Back to Zerviah.. she was born in 1786 in Adams, Berkshire County, MA where the Joshua Sprague family moved after getting kicked out of Sackville, Nova Scotia around 1776. Zerviah lived in Berkshire (or Bennington, VT) until after her father, Elijah Sprague died in 1800. Zerviah married David ROSS in about 1801 in Stamford, Bennington VT. They had at least two children there and then moved to Washington County, OH, living on the Sprague farm accross from Coal Run. They had several children and are buried on the Sprague farm. Please help me find out who Anna Sprague was (maiden name) and also the parents of David Ross. The roots for these people are in Smithfield or Glocseter in Providence County, RI and may be related to a family named Shippee or Shippey. I hope this connects with someone.
