I'm researching my wife's side of the family and may have discovered a connection to Washington County. My wife's 3rd great grandparents were Mahala KIRKBRIDE and John SMITH. They lived for a time in Monroe County where their son, Thomas Alexander SMITH, was born in 1842. Tom is my wife's 2nd great grandfather. In trying to come up with Mahala KIRKBRIDE's parents, I've uncovered some information that points to Henry KIRKBRIDE and Catharine WILLIAMS. Henry was apparently born in 1783 in Allegany County, Maryland and died on 10 February 1840 in Washington County, Ohio. Being new to Washington County, I've got two questions: Was there a weekly newspaper in the county in 1840 that might have recorded Henry's death? If so, how might I determine if an obituary exists? What's the best way for me to determine if Henry left a will that was recorded in Washington County? Of course I'd be happy to correspond with anyone who's researching the Henry KIRKBRIDE family.
