Mandy Cat; The Elizabeth Gard Rawson that you are speaking of is relation to my Elizabeth Watson Johnson Gard. When MY Elizabeth died, John Gard married the sister of Elizabeth. Her name was Nancy Watson. She was John's 3rd wife. According to the book: JOHN W. GARD & THE GARD FAMILIES IN THE MID-OHIO VALLEY genealogy written by Elaine Burdett Rouse in 1992, it says that John Gard had 14 children and was married 3 X's. On page 2 of the genealogy, it states that John Gard bought 100 acres of land from Hernry and Pleasant Johnson and later 4 acres from Joseph Johnson. This 100 acres that John Gard bought was on the 1801 tax list of Wood Co. in or around the Bull Run area. (I only have the first 4 pages of this book) Rick Ritchie (distant cousin) who is also researching the same family found this info about Joseph Johnson: Joseph Johnson lost his life trying to save that of friend when the two were crossing on horseback (Aunt Francis says Fishing Creek; Aunt Belle inserts Big Run 2 miles south of Marietta in West Virginia - from an old letter. father's memory) Joseph reached shore, but saw his friend had been dismounted and knowing he couldn't swim, went to his aid, but was caught by an uprooted tree in the current which dragged him under. His body being found later several miles below. His horse escaped. -Francis Howe Johnson Joseph may have been the son Henry Johnson, one of the earliest settlers of Wood Co., Virginia. Henry settled on the upper end of Big Run before Wood County was organized in 1800. The Wood Co. Deed Book 4 records that he had 500 acres patented to him on Aug. 22, 1797. The deed book mentions Henry's wife, Pleasant, and his son, Joseph, and daughter-in-law, Sarah. Jacob Johnson (below) married Sarah Locker, whose family lived on Big Run, so it just seems likely to me that this is the same family Mary Batemen: I don't know when MY Elizabeth (Watson Johnson Gard) was born or when she died. The only thing I know about her is that she is the daughter of George & Elizabeth (Henthorn) Watson. Elizabeth would of been born in Marion County, Va. (Now WV.) I am only guessing that she could of been born between 1770-1778. (Wild guess) Elizabeth's son (Jacob) went to live with this Uncle David Watson (Elizabeth's brother) shortly after his father Joseph Johnson died in 1793 or 94. Jacob was just a baby. I don't think that Jacob lived with his mother and her new husband (John Gard). I hope you can help with this brick wall.
