The Spirit of Democracy 6 July 1864 Volume 21 No 18 77th OVI, large portion captured in guarding a train from Camden to Pine Bluff, Made prisoners of the following named persons of Co I, most from Monroe county, information from Lieut Province who was a prisoner 16 days, taken with them as far as Greenwood, 20 miles west of Shreveport in the direction of Tyler Tx., their place of destination; missing W. W. Scott, W W. Bunis, Peter Daily, James Spence, James Hartshorn, Martin Cline, Allen Wheeler, Frederick Arkinson, David H Baker, W. H. Banes, J. Dawson, David Eddy, Israel Early, left at hospital David Flowers, Joseph B Givens, Joseph Thomas, John Godrey, Rufus Handlin; missing Henry Handlin: sick at Shreveport: Boswell Kenny,J. W. Law; Jefferson Long, Thomas Oliver, Isaiah Rogers, Samuel Springer; escaped; Lieut Jesse S Province, Corporal Nathan Province, Privs David Mills, Daniel McCollum, Samuel Cline, Calip Rogers, John Greggs, Zachariah Smith, all made their escape the day of the action.
