    2. Eliz Hope this will help you out with your dilemma. History of Buchanan of Scotch Descent By Will E. Buchanan, of Urbana, Illinois Charles Buchanan (youngest child of Jeffrey Wilcox Buchanan & Rachel Prouty) was born May 18, 1841, near Joy, Athens Co., Ohio. Being the youngest he lived at home with his parents and took care of them in their old age. He was deeded the old homestead containing 100 acres two miles south of Waterford, Ohio. He continued in the occupation of his father, at that time a sheep raiser, and being a man well adopted for business he made a success and purchased more land until he became the owner of 200acres of well improved land. He was married July 4, 1860 to Hester Ann DeVore, born April 5, 1840 in Steubenville, Ohio and came to Joy, Ohio in 1855. She was a kind Christian woman and a dutiful wife and loving mother of six children. She died May 21, 1874 leaving her husband and five of the six children, George Dallas, William Ellsworth, Charles Alvin, Francis Arthur, Mary Ann, Lucy Ann. For his second wife he married March 25, 1875 to Frances Louise Stacy, born August 28, 1844 at Rainbow, Ohio, daughter of C. F. Stacy or Rainbow, Ohio. She was all the mother that the children could wish for. They lived on the farm until March 6, 1898 when they moved to Beverly where he lived until his death May 17, 1908. His wife broke up housekeeping in December 1908 and afterwards made her home with the children and her brother C. F. Stacy. William L. Phillips Urbana Il.
