    1. IMPORTANT "TIPS" ABOUT EARLY MARRIAGES
    2. Debbie (Noland) Nitsche
    3. TIP #1 I you don't find the person you are researching in the Washington Co., Ohio exractions of the Marriage Index, chances are, he/she could of been married in an adjoining county. Keep in mind that Washington Co. took up MOST of the eastern half of Ohio in the very early years. See this website, for when parts of Washington County became other counties. http://www.negenealogy.com/oh/oh_maps/oh_cf.htm If by some chance you are disappointed that your ancestor is not listed, send me their FIRST and LAST name, and I will send you all the names listed. I ask that you PLEASE make this request to me DIRECTLY, at Diamonddeb@comcast.net That way, we won't junk up the LIST. I will only reply to those requests that are sent to MY email address directly. ______________________________________________________ TIP # 2 In reference to doing your searches by the BRIDE"S surname, you might want to search not only by their MAIDEN name, but their MARRIED name as well. I have noticed that during the transcriptions, that the BRIDE often used their MARRIED name if they married more than once. For example: My 5th gr. grandmother, Susannah Coburn married William Mason, after William died, she married Elisha Davis. She is listed as Susannah Mason in the Marriage Index when she married Elisha. NOTE: Usually, the early marriages only give the names of bride and groom, date of marriage and who performed the ceremony. The parents' names are rarely given, unless one or both of the parties are underage, in which consent must be given. It is also a good idea to cross-reference different spellings you may find, since many of our early ancestors could not read or write. The recorder for the marriage record would record the name as it sounded, not as it actually was or should be spelled (e.g.,Colbern, Coburn, Colburn, Colbourne, Cobourne, Coborn, Colbron, Colburne., etc.).
