>From the Jan 15 1919 REPUBLICAN JOURNAL: SARAHSVILLE Fred PETTAY tracked a coon up a beach tree on J.H. YOUNG's farm last week. The tree was about 2 1/2 feet in diameter and 20 feet high, the top had blown down. Mr. PETTAY fearing to leave the tree to get help, lest the coon would come down, climbed up and saw the coon lying in his next about three feet down in the hollow of the tree. He removed some slabs covering the coon's nest and jumped in on the coon and trampted him to death. The coon weigher 17 1/4 pounds. ***** Miss Madlin YOUNG, of Los Angles, Cal., is spending the winter at the homes of her sisters, Mrs. John TUTTLE and Mrs. Frank MUSSER. ***** The influenza has let up here, there were 36 cases in the village and no deaths. The ban has been lifted and the schools started off again and protracted meeting. ***** Howard VORHES and wife have returned to their home at Cambridge, after a week's visit with his parents, Mr. and mrs. W.L. VORHIES and brothers, Sam and L.P. and families. ***** Mesdames Emma KEMP, Alice MOORE and Abbigale TUTTLE were the guests of Mrs. Lib DAVIS last Sunday. ***** Mrs. Sarah WATSON has gone to Akron to visit her daughter and other relatives and friends. ***** Mrs. Hannah MILTON received a message last Friday from Byesville, the George MILTON was killed by a fall of slate in the mine. He was the father of Wm. MILTON, her husband, now in France. ***** George CLARK and family, of Hartford, visited his brother Amzi, and Wm. POLAND and family, Sunday. ***** Miss Madlin YOUNG and Mrs. John TUTTLE visited relatives and friends at Zanesville last week. ***** Miss Martha BEYMER has returned from a visit with relatives at Cambridge. ***** Mrs. Lou DILLEY and Ruth and John were calling on Prof. and Mrs. BROKAW last Sunday.
