I can not recall the exact title - but the group who settled the Ohio Company Purchase before or about 1800 are documented - there is detail account of building the rafts on the PA rivers and floating down the Ohio to Marietta. Try searching the archives of the Washington County list for Ohio Company Purchase - if you don't find it come back to me and I will take the time to locate that reference - it is a good one... Also of course there was an important movement up the rivers of Kentucky but they were not from Fayette County. I have never seen the stats but I would wager a nickel that there more came to Southeastern Ohio say before 1820 by river than by land.
