    3. Obit from the Jan 15, 1919 REPUBLICAN JOURNAL: Harley W. CRUM, son of J.M. and Mandy E. CRUM, was born August 7, 1897. Died October 16, 1918, aged 23 years, 2 months and 7 days. He leaves father, mother and two sisters, Edith MASON and Belva OKEY, both of whom are married and have families, and three brothers, Evert, Clarence and Edward, of the home, and host of relatives and friends to mourn the loss of one whom they loved so well, who learned to love him for his manly virtues and goodness of heart. He lived an upright honest life and was always obedient to his parents. While he has answered the call of death, his spirit has gone to God who gave it and may God's will be done. Knowing that in a few fleeting years at most we will all answer the same call. It may not always be possible for the human mind to fathom God's purposes and to read His plans in the experience of our lives. The days of sorrow and sadness may seem even contrary to His promises, but we can in all confidence accept every day and every trial of life with the conviction that God is shaping our destiny and He know what is best. All that was mortal of Harley W. CRUM was lain to rest in Crum Ridge cemetery on October 17, 1918. Funeral conducted by C.C. ROE. Undertaker E.F. LEISURE. Why do we mourn departing friends or shake at death's alarm? 'Tis but the voice that Jesus sends to call them to his arms. Are we not tending upward too, as fast as time can move, nor would we wish the time more slow to keep us from our love. Written by a Friend.
