    1. [OHWASH] Robbie H Stiers Obit May 17 1912
    2. Beverly Dispatch May 17, 1912 Robbie H. Stiers Killed in Railroad Accident Robbie H Stiers, who left here about two years ago for Illinois and since that time has been working on the Chicago, Northwestern R.R., met with a fatal accident about eleven o’clock last Saturday night, which cased his death a few hours afterward. He was making his time at Belvidere, Ill., and was making a night run as brakeman on the freight train when the accident occurred. The train had stopped at Nelson Ill. And the train-men were switching cars. Robbie was hanging from the rear of a section of the train which was backing up to make the connection with other cars to assist in making the "hook-up", it is supposed he stepped on a small can that was near the rails and was thrown backwards, his head coming between the tow cars and his skull crushed. No one saw the accident and it was not known by the trainmen for a few moments, when he did not appear from between the two sections of the train to give the proper signal with his lantern. His body was at once picked up and taken aboard the engine and tender and rushed it a hospital at Sterling several miles away. Operation were made immediately in an effort to save his life but death came upon him in a few hours. The remains were brought her Tuesday and taken to the time of his mother near Moscow Mills. Funeral services were held at Mt Olive Church Wednesday morning at 10 o’clock and interment made in the Beverly Cemetery. The deceased, who was in the 23rd year of his age, has many relatives here, having in Beverly an uncle J. H. Stiers and aunt Mrs. Harris White. The deceased, although but a young man, was large of stature and was a good rail-road man. He made many friends while in the West, and was a member of the Railway Men’s Association, two of whom accompanied the remains here. His sudden death is a sadness upon all who knew him.
