I am sorry but I have not been able to find the answers to questions below. I have a Brooks family that are definately in the Lake Hope State Park in 1850, possibly 1840 too. All I know about the family before 1840 census is that there was an Archibald Brooks born in Ohio 1802 and probably his son Archibald Brooks Jr. born 1828, Athens/Vinton Ohio. I find them in both Madison & Brown Twps. Vinton County. I have searched and searched and not found an Archibald Brooks born 1802 in Ohio. Can anyone tell me where I might find the birth record for Archibald JR? The marriage info for his parents? In 1850 census Archibald JR is married. In ancestry.com there is a list of head of household for Vinton County. Although there are 2 of each person listed sometimes you cannot access the census info. Same with 1840 etc. I need to know why these names are listed twice in Ancestry.com? Just because there are 2 of ech name does not mean that every person there is actually 2 different people. There can't be every person in the census is a Sr and a Jr. Another question is that I have no idea where the family is before this. BUT if they were in this area since 1800, then where would these records be? Vinton County was created in 1850 and there are few records for this county before that. So if Vinton County was actually Washington County in 1800 where are these records? Then Athens County was formed in 1805. I need to know what county/Twp was Lake Hope State Park in 1805? 1810? 1820? 1830? 1840? I need to try to find out if there is a census for Archibald Brooks born 1802. And maybe Archibald Jr went by Archibald Jr as this is maybe a middle name and his father went by the first name. This is possibility but not for sure. There are John & John Jr in the Area, Sam and Thomas too I think have a Jr. It is possible that this is my problem in finding the info. In the 1850 Census at Ancestry they list the 1850 census index and the 1851 tax record. The only image available to look at is the census. When they list 12 people with last name of Jones, there are 6 census images and 6 listed on the tax list. Hope this helps.
