[Permission granted to re-post] WHAT: MARIETTA 8TH GRADE STUDENTS RALLY TO KEEP THE CAMPUS MARTIUS AND OHIO RIVER MUSEUMS OPEN WHEN: FRIDAY, MAY 1, 2009, AT 4PM WHERE: IN FRONT OF CAMPUS MARTIUS MUSEUM, MARIETTA, OHIO WHO: MARIETTA 8TH GRADE STUDENTS, TAKING PART IN A NATIONAL PROGRAM CALLED ''THIS PLACE MATTERS'' ARE LOOKING FOR A SHOW OF SUPPORT FROM AREA RESIDENTS AS THEY RALLY TO KEEP THE MUSEUMS OPEN. ALL MEMBERS OF THE COMMUNITY ARE INVITED TO TAKE PART. CONTACT PERSON: JUDITH PERRIN, HISTORY TEACHER AT MARIETTA MIDDLE SCHOOL. 740-374-6530 The rally is the result of class discussion about the Ohio Historical Society announcement of closing Campus Martius and the Ohio River Museum on July 1st.. Eighth grade student, Cheyenne Lemasters suggested the students take part in a National Student Program, called "THIS PLACE MATTERS" and rally the community to support the museums. The students have been active writing leaders in Columbus about the importance of these regional museums. You are asked to contact your state representatives and attend the RALLY FRIDAY. The students have requested the Marietta Chapter Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard to open the program. Student leader Cheyenne Lemasters will address the assembled. It is expected that many local groups and leaders will be in attendance. The program should conclude by 4:20pm.
