The descendants of the Cline family from up and down the Ohio Valley will meet Sunday 2PM , September 20th in Woodsfield Ohio at the Library for inductions into the Klein-Cline Lineage Society. The Monroe County Ohio Genealogical Society sponsors the Clines as a Department of that organization and will perform the inductions along with 1st Families of Monroe County . The inductions will be followed by a presentation on the Cline’s by family historian, Harley Dakin of Newcomerstown Ohio. The Clines can trace their lineage back to the 15th Century in the Alsace region of what today is France however, the Clines are Germanic in Origin. This Alsace region was in dispute for many years after the collapse of the Holy Roman Empire and during Martin Luther’s reformation, many of the German inhabitants of the area suffered persecution for their Lutheran beliefs, causing many of the inhabitants leave that area. In later years, many including the Kleins came to the United States. The original spelling of the name Klein was changed to Cline after immigration to the United States. Many of the Cline family descendants in the Ohio Valley can trace their ancestry to George and Sussanah Cline, of Monroe County and Washington Counties in Ohio. The results of Dna test have connected the Ohio Valley Clines with the branch of Clines living in Catawaba County North Carolina today. Research has connected the two lines of Clines and records indicate the origin of the break in the lines occurred with the migration of Clines from Pennsylvania into Western Virginia (Fort Henry) and then across the River into Ohio while the other branch moved to North Carolina. Membership in the Klein- Cline Lineage Society is open to anyone who can show they are descended from these Clines. With very few exceptions, the Clines on the West Virginia side of the River and the Ohio side are descended from these Clines with the oldest known progenitor being Pieter Klein (1575).
