Is is the Griswold <G> what a treasure trove this is http://www.revwar.com/ftgriswold/graves2.html Eliz On Mon, Jun 15, 2009 at 12:03 PM, E Robson<[email protected]> wrote: > Debbie ~ (& thanks Eliz) > > Another of the publications included at ancestry brought up more information relative to Joseph in the Battle of Groton. It stated Joseph's wounds were his (R?) eye and upper cheek. The same piece stated a musket ball had passed under his shoulder blade. I didn't write these down, so this is memory and only remember thinking that shot up as he was he was lucky to be alive. One or another of those publications included lists of the killed, wounded, and those taken prisoner during the battle of Groton Heights. Unfamiliar with Connecticut's RW history I was surprised to learn that the Connecticut born Benedict Arnold led the British forces in that attack. > > Curious about the battle I later did some google searches. One result that would interest you can be found at www.revwar.com/ftgriswald/graves2.html It includes information and gravestone inscriptions for those taking part in the battle. Joseph is included. It stated that he was 28 y/o when he was wounded and paroled. The gravestone inscription included his death as Dec 1813 Age 60. (Ft. Griswald or Ft. Griswold? - just in case I erred on the URL) > > Joseph's death was recorded in the Connecticut Town Marriage Records mentioned earlier. It was included under ancestry's births, marriages, etc section of Historical records. Joseph's death was included on p. 241 of the publication, while the Joseph and Mary Perkins marriage was included on pp 187 and 241 of same. These entries also included the volume and page numbers containing the record. > > Ella > > > > > > > > ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ > > To contact the OHWASHIN list administrator, send an email to [email protected] > > To post a message to the OHWASHIN mailing list, send an email to [email protected] > > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
