Marietta sure has its share of heartache, as 2 former teachers passed away this week..... First, Robert Patterson. He used to be the American History Teacher at the Marietta Junior High School (now known as the Marietta Middle School) Second, George Garretson, a former 6th Grade teacher at Phillips Elementary School. George was a teacher under Warren Howard, principal back in the 1970's. He was well known for his 6th Grade Science Field Trips throughout Washington County, and the advisor of the 5th/6th grade Safety Patrol in the school. George Garretson was also my neighbor when I lived on Greene Street as a teenager. I was just talking about him during my conversation with Warren Howard a few weeks ago. We were reminising about the good ole days of Phillips School and told Warren abt. the time I ran over George's flower bed with my Dad's car, right after I got my driver learners permit. lol At first, I didn't think George seen me, but I was wrong. My guilt got the best of me, so I had to come clean and let him know that it was me that smached all the flowers to the ground. Then I helped him for the next two weeks getting it all back in order.
