Eliz.... If you go to the website of the Upper Ohio River & Town Maps (url below), scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the map for MARIETTA & HARMAR. There you see "your" G. H. Lord. To the left, of his land is a Stone Quarry. Wonder if this is Townsend's Quarry? Makes sense because it is at the "upper" part of Harmar Village. Oh how interesting, right now I clicked on map XI and am finding all my Ancestral Aunts husbands. Am I the only one whose kin stayed in the same township decade after decade? My kin either left completely or stood tight, there are a bunch of Washington Co townships whose names I barely know. I have seen a bunch of River maps but they didn't have land owners listed, these are wonderful. My dogs are going to be so upset - they will have to drag me away from the maps <G> Eliz On Sat, Jan 24, 2009 at 11:38 PM, Debbie Noland Nitsche <[email protected]> wrote: > Eliz.... > > If you go to the website of the Upper Ohio River & Town Maps (url below), > scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the map for MARIETTA & > HARMAR. Yeah!! These are GREAT maps! Did you notice that these 1877 maps have historical markings on them, like where Farmers Castle was in Belpre? That's just one example. Another neat thing about these Ohio River Maps is you can see whose land belongs to whom directly across the river from each other. And on the Marietta Map, you can see where the hotels were along the river in what is now known as Ohio Street. I'm having a hard time pulling myself away from these maps too. lol DEB Debbie Noland Nitsche [email protected] Historical Marietta, Ohio on MySpace http://www.myspace.com/historicalmariettaohio ----- Original Message ----- From: "Eliz Hanebury" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 25, 2009 12:21 PM Subject: Re: [OHWashin] Upper Ohio River & Town Maps (1877) > Oh how interesting, right now I clicked on map XI and am finding all > my Ancestral Aunts husbands.
